Default Toothless

I am introducing... Toothless!

best2.jpg

He is named after the dragon, and because at the moment he is missing his two bottom front teeth. (Soft food in addition to his regular food, which he is eating at least some of...)

He is from a litter born and raised here, and he has quite the story. He was the only mink in a litter full of sables and creams, and I had my eye on him from the start.

He ended up being the tiniest runt that I have EVER had. At 4-5 weeks, he was 1/4 to 1/3 the size of his littermates. I seriously questioned whether he would make it. He was a feisty little thing, despite his size. I left him with Mama, and waited to see if he grew.

He continued to nurse (and she continued to let him!) until he was 7 weeks, at which point he had grown to be about the size of a 4-week-old hamster, and I thought the risk of a pregnancy (which would have probably been roan to roan, WORST CASE scenario) was too great to let him stay with her longer.

He is in a cage of his own now, and it was when I saw him finally yawn that I noticed the missing teeth. I am hoping it happened since he got into his new cage, but I suspect it is the root cause of his extreme runtiness

My kids came home after I had his new home all sorted out and he was settled in. Everyone thinks he is absolutely gorgeous, and I agree! Who can resist that little face of his?

He will be a permanent resident and full-blown pet hamster here, for what I hope will be a long, happy life. He will not be bred because of the tooth/runt issues, but he has captured our hearts and there's no way we could give him up.

Two things:

1. Would you all agree that he is a mink roan (both banded and satin)? His Mama is believed to be a silver ivory roan, and his Sire was a silver mink banded.

2. Does anyone have any dietary suggestions? He is currently receiving baby food with protein in it 2x daily in addition to his regular food.

Here are some more pictures of this amazing little fighter. Enjoy!

He is seriously cute! What do you call him for short?
I'm sure the experts will be on in the morning with advice. Sounds like you're doing well though!

No nicknames have come about yet. I keep thinking he is a complete ball of fluff, so that may end up factoring in to whatever nickname emerges!
