He's gorgeous! He looks like a baby version of Charlie. It's nice he is interracting with you and brilliant you can pick him up! The bathtub is brilliant for taming I reckon. I like the assault course you have in it.

Yes, they both have very similar coloring!

He had a lot of fun on the assault course. I dismantled that hanging ladder toy thing, as it seemed a little dangerous, and have been using the various pieces during out of cage time. He'll climb on the ladders occasionally but mostly he likes to chew on them.

I did the same thing with the hanging ladder toy. Spike didn't like it so I took it apart and I use the ladder bits during playtime. The rope circle with the wooden piece attached to it I hung up in his cage for him to chew on. A lot of hammy's like the hanging ladder but although I've never heard of it happening it does seem to be a toy that could potentially cause injury. That being said almost anything could potentially cause injury, I suppose it's a matter of degrees of risk. I'm personally happier just using the parts.

I didn't like those hanging ladders either, they're stupidly unstable. One of the longer hanging bendy bridges would be a better walkway and safer, if you still wanted a hanging toy?

I love the hanging bendy bridges! I do have one of those in there now, the one that's pretty sturdy and goes across the width of the cage. He does like walking on it and sometimes he likes to sit there and check out what's going on.

I also have an order of new hamster toys on the way (I went a little overboard), and I'm going to try to get something set up similar to what Serendipity has for Charlie, as far as a sort of upper level run from bendy bridge to hammock to hanging rat tunnel to sputnik. My boyfriend thinks I'm a little nuts for how much effort I'm putting into this, but what he doesn't know is I wish the cage was even bigger so I could do more! I'd really love to get a detolf eventually in a year or so. Though he did suggest getting a smaller second cage to connect to the main one with tubes to give Hubble more space AND he always saves Hubble small pieces of veggies, so maybe he has hamster brain as much as I do.

It's great giving them a good cage though isn't it?! The problem with getting a detolf after having had a rooftop run is they lose the rooftop run! I think you can fit some things to the mesh of a detolf roof though.

The boyfriend ordered a box of wine. First thing when I saw the cardboard was "hamster toy"! So, I made a castle for His Highness this afternoon. Can't wait to see how he reacts to it. I'm going to sprinkle some seeds in there and hopefully he'll go exploring.

This is what I started out with.

Front door! There's a cardboard tube just inside that leads straight to the back exit. Just inside, there are two doors on either side leading to the rest of the castle.

Looking down on the castle from above! Each of these little sections has a door to go exploring into the next section.

Here's one of the side exits.

And here's the back with the lookout tower. Not so sure about the ladder, but I'll be watching him carefully to make sure he doesn't stumble and can get back down from it.

Well if that's not the best reason to order a case of wine I don't know what is excellent work Jen, it looks like great fun! I want to explore it myself tbh lol

His Highness had fun exploring the castle this evening, and he collected all the seeds I had hidden for him. Well done, Hubble!

But, what he didn't realize was that this was a distraction from...dun, dun, DUN! His first big cage clean. I've only spot cleaned since I got him, other than that day I added in more substrate (though it still wasn't enough), and things were getting a bit manky in there. I've been dreading this to be honest. I took the opportunity to make some needed tweaks to the layout, I cleaned out the substrate (though left about 1/3 of the old as well as some of his nesting material), and then added so much more substrate than I had in there previously. So much nicer in there now.

Of course, Hubble did not agree and went on a very agitated rampage around the cage! And then the bar chewing appeared. Sigh. Trust me, Hubble. The cage is so much nicer for you now.

Don't worry, his wheel is in there. It's just hidden by the massive hammock.

A little bit of cucumber calmed him down for a moment, and now he's napping in his sand bath.
