Re: Please may we present-Jarvis and Mocho...
What a little home loving sweet heart his is!
I can imagine how your heart must have sunk when you realised what you'd done, you're not the first to have done it either, I think it's surprisingly easy & something I get quite paranoid about, always checking cage doors lol!
He's obviously a very happy stay at home boy bless him & really appreciates the home you've given him, wouldn't dream of leaving

Re: Please may we present-Jarvis and Mocho...
Thank you all for the kind words. I thought I was being so careful. I do wish there was a 100 cm cage with one big front door. The two smaller ones are a little more awkward to use when getting a ham out and the one big one was difficult to leave hanging open and not notice! Maybe I should use the big top one more often but it is a bit noisy when pressing to close.

Aww what a gem! Been there done that too Coco with Archie - went shopping came home, saw the cage door open and dropped shopping lol! He was munching away at his treats oblivious to the open cage door.
Now, had that been Twinkle, she would've been out and chewing up my living room.
Mocho knows how good he's got it - bless!

Trying not to overdo the carefulness. Waiting for him to wake up. Have a little bit of roast chicken, mashed potato and raw runner bean. It's a big thank you!
A big thank you for the understanding too!

Re: Please may we present-Jarvis and Mocho...
I know what you mean about being glad they are reclusive sometimes! The same thing has happened with me a few times, although not overnight. And yes Charlie was still in his house too! These days I'm not so sure - he might venture out now if I left the door open all night - but maybe not if he sensed I wasn't there. He got much more confident when he turned a year old.
Of course Mocho may well have had a little adventure in the night that you don't know about lol! Have you found any suspicious paw prints anywhere?
Many years ago I shared a hamster with a live-in boyfriend for a while and he had free run - his cage door was always left open and he came and went as he pleased - we just had to remember to keep the door closed. Every evening he'd be out and about in the living room (we didn't have a clue back then, he used to climb the curtains and all sorts!) but he always went back into his house before we went to bed and ran in his wheel all night - and was still in his house in the morning. It's interesting. I guess because he could get out whenever he wanted he chose to stay in his house at night. We think. We could certainly hear the wheel going most of the night!
But as you say, Mocho has such a lovely environment, and a nice routine in it - why change that?! Glad all is ok.
Lol - just read this again - I meant the hamster, not the boyfriend

Re: Please may we present-Jarvis and Mocho...
Glad the bf didn't climb the curtains!
If Mocho had been out on a nocturnal rampage, he could not have returned home. Although the table he is on is not that high, I have a newspaper skirt hanging all the way around as an anti mouse deterrent. Haven't seen any indoors for months but I don't want any invaders. We had a chinchilla in that position before and I found mouse droppings in her food bowl.
Interesting last night as I gave him a little mashed potato and chicken on the same spoon. He ate most of the spud and only had a nibble at the chicken before going back to bed. I left him a bit of chicken in his treat bowl and it vanished in the night as expected. His preference was interesting though.

Re: Please may we present-Jarvis and Mocho...
It's been all quiet with Mocho staying in his house to keep warm in this cold spell.
However his cousin Jarvis has been out for a cuddle tonight and a treat with Dusty on a lovely warm blanket. I received this photo and could hardly believe it!!
