Darissa, Mother of Hamsters

Darissa is the mother of the A14 litter, and Arya, Dusty, and Amaretto, all keepers who have stayed with us. Nancy was kind enough to give us this lovely girl, who was pregnant by her male, Shiloh.

Now, my relationship with Darissa is a bit rocky, BUT she is a sweet girl. She is absolutely angelic to my SO, and will sit with him and take all the treats he will give her (which is a lot). She and I don't get on super well, but she'll tolerate me handling her. I don't think she liked me when we were fussing over the water bottle in her bin. Either way, I still love her, and she's a great girl. She just lets me know when she wants me to leave her alone!

This was essentially what she looked like until she had her pups. "Feed me more sunflower seeds please!" - This might be why she likes my SO more than me :P

"Yes, please, keep them coming!"

She made an amazing mother, and would always let the little ones tag along and cuddle with her.

We called one of the pups in the litter "Mini-Dar" because she reminded us so much of Darissa.

She was eventually very glad to have her home back to herself.

"No dad noooo"

Om nom nom.

I really enjoy having her around, as she's awake during the day every now and then. She'll come to the side of her tank and "talk" to me, which is very sweet. A lovely lady, who will live out her retirement with many sunflower seeds!

She's one hot hamster mummy!
She's had a lot happen to her in a short time and has taken it in her stride but I'm sure in time you'll get that bond back real soon xx

Such a beautiful hamster, and she made wonderful babies...so many colors! I think it's really cute that some of the hams prefer your SO. You can't win 'em all!

I'm kinda okay that she likes my SO more - most of the hams strongly prefer me over him. We've tested it out by putting our hands side by side, and they'll always hop onto mine. He'll sometimes put a treat on his hand and they'll still come to me... oops.

Darissa is the only one that makes a dive for him. I'm trying to tell him to bond more with Dusty, so it's the same, but he's slow on taking that up.

Thin Lizzy - she did! She had to learn all about being Canadian, and the metric system and everything in a short week. Lol! We were lucky that she had already had one litter, so she wasn't a first time mum. She did very well up here, even if she thought the nest belonged beneath the water bottle.

Hmm I wonder if I put my hand next to your hands who she'd leap to since I raised her from a wee pupster before going to the CanAm life. LOL

Nancy, I'm sure she'd happily pounce onto yours and give you a snuggle! She's getting better with me (large amounts of sunflower seed bribes, lol!) but she vastly prefers my SO.
