Red face How wide should the cage bars be?

Hello,

I am planning to get a syrian hamster soon. I have a guinea pig cage, as it was the only suitable (size wise) cage I could find, however the bars are very spaced a lot more than most cages. I'm probably going to have to put mesh over it.

Just in case, how close should the bars be in inches? The bars on my cage are about one inch apart. Thank you!

Hi. One inch is too big. I think bars for a Syrian should be no more than 1cm. Sorry I know that is not inches, but it is a bit less than half an inch. What kind of cage do you have? You could mesh the current cage with mesh if the cage is suitable otherwise.

Thank you! I'm not sure what it's called, but it looks a lot like this except with a second floor: http://www.petmountain.com/photos/pr...2/-/506162.jpg

I'll just mesh it, no problem c:

1.2cm is considered the max for a Syrian. Even large Syrians can get out of a guinea/rabbit cage so meshing in the best option

1cm is best for bar spacing
