Re: Charlie's thread
I never felt the need to freeze the science selective food? That`s a new one! I just opened the bag took out a few and either broke them up or softened them. They seem to have a strong smell of gravy bones!

Re: Charlie's thread
I freeze all hamster food since my moth invasion last year! Not taking any chances - although I probably will take some chances for a few days when it arrives The problem seems to be the time it is taking to arrive at the moment!

Re: Charlie's thread
So pleased Charlie's accepted his cage clean and was out on his wheel. He's become a very chilled ham lately.

Re: Charlie's thread
Well the Science Selective still didn't arrive yesterday so I ordered some elsewhere with next day delivery which should be here tomorrow. And then the original bag arrived today! So I'll have enough to feed an army of hamsters for a while ha ha.

Re: Charlie's thread
Just typical eh? It does keep well though as memory serves that it has a sealed top when you open the bag?

Re: Charlie's thread
Charlie had his soaked science selective again last night and has taken the lot He has been rather spoiled the last few days since I ran out with oodles of treats hidden all over the place to compensate, and egg and porridge. I gave it a blast in the freezer for 36 hours and then took enough out for a few days until the bag has had a bit longer in the freezer. Anyway by the time I've poured boiling water on it I doubt any moth eggs could survive anyway! I break the biscuits in half, put them in a babyfood lid, pour a bit of boiling water on, let it cool down and then pop it in the cage.

Re: Charlie's thread
Sounds like a very good way of getting Charlie to eat a balanced food diet when the full selective science becomes too much. Mocho likes them but I found many not eaten in his hoard recently. Maybe I should break them up a bit now. Softening could come later.

Re: Charlie's thread
I'm glad that he didn't have problems with the clean cage. It's normal that they need to rearrange things, because we humans don't know anything about hamster decoration we always do everything wrong when we place things back again in their cages (even if we put them in the same place where they were). Silly us!
I can see that there are a lot of Hamchefs around here. Lucky Charlie!
