Yes spuddy was an amazing boy and I missed him when he went on to the Hamster place in the sky. TY for the complements on my Hamsters. I try my best to raise good quality tame and social Hamsters and strive for longevity along with following the standards set.

Aw I am sure he is enjoying his time there!
And your welcome!

Another Question, Sorry I am jumping from one color to the next, but I get so excited talking about Syrian Genetics and there are so many fascinating colors out there!

As for the chocolate gene which I am now moving on to:
If someone were to breed a black hamster that carried some other color besides rust, and then you bred that hamster to a chocolate hamster (aabb) would there be chocolate babies? or just black babies? since the black doesn't carry rust? or what?

Thanks!

You would get blacks carrying rust. Both parents must be chocolate, or must carry rust to yield chocolate babies.

Male: Black carrying rust and cinnamon (aaBbPp ---> aBp, abP, aBP, abp)
Female: Cinnamon carrying black (Aapp --> Ap, ap)
Would that be the correct genes for a punnett square?
and what would happen to the B's and b's if so?
since there is not matching gene in the Female for rust?

The female would be AaBBpp for the genes in questions, ie a cinnamon carrying black but not carrying rust.

Personally I wouldn't advise mixing cinnamon and rust together (unless working towards copper). It's not dangerous but mixing such similar colours together makes it hard to unpick them later and can produce a bit of a mishmash in pups, e.g. a pup that is both cinnamon and rust or a rust honey etc. Ultimately it could result in the 'pure' colours being wiped out and leaving just a muddle which is why it's not advisable. Similarly, yellow and cream aren't a good idea to mix either
