Smile Introducing Biscuit

Hi I'm new here and also new to owning hamsters. I got biscuit last week I think she is about 3 months old. She is a Syrian hamster and we are just starting to get her used to being handled, she will happily crawl over our hands and loves her wheel and her exercise ball She has nipped me a couple of times but only properly bitten me once. I'm hoping the more we handle her the more she will trust us and not bite

Any tips on taming and general care would be greatly appreciated

Will also upload some pictures when I can

Hello and welcome to the forum!!

It can always take time for a new hammie to settle in. If your hamster is nipping you try and wash your hands before handling her. I sometimes find my hamster nibbles my fingers when he can smell food or something interesting on them.

To help your hamster get use to you, you can sit in a bath tub if you have one and let your hamster run around and use you are their climbing toy.

I can't wait to see some pictures of her!

ok lets see if uploading these pictures works....
I think she is settling a bit more now, we've had her exactly a week today now, she loves coming out into her exercise ball I try not to let her out for too long but when she goes back into her cage after a bit of handling practice she acts like a complete lunatic running around her cage lol she's quite amusing to watch

She does still seem to almost tremble a little when we do handle her even though she hardly ever bites, the last time she bit me I think it was because my hands smelt a bit like food as you said Dusty. Is a sort of trembling normal for new hamsters?

Pook is completely hand tamed but is by nature a bit of a trembling critter....life makes him tremble. But its seems to be more a matter of sensory overload than any fear, really.....everything excites him Your hammy sounds quite normal ...granted with a cuter face than usual .....heh......
