Chewing plastic
Hi, I know this must be a common question with beginner hamster owners such as myself but I have googled and googled but kind of hit a brick wall.
I have a Syrian Hamster named Tilly who is about ten weeks old, we got her at eight. Things are largely ok. She's begining to trust going into my hand from her ball back to her cage, eats sleeps and drinks ok.
But she has progressively got worse at chewing. First the bars that close the cage now the plastic corners and sides of the cage. I've tried to remedy this with chewsticks, wooden bridge, climbing frame, toilet roll, cardboard shreds. But she still seems to only want to chew at the cage.
This led me to boredom as the next cause. So she has prolonged time in the ball (which she also seems to gnaw at when stuck in a corner.
The metal bars I've coated in lemon juice which has stopped her for now but she just goes at the plastics. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have photos of my cage but I don't seem to have peivlidge to put them in my post alas.
