Yesterday I stopped by the pet shop after work. I wanted to pick up a temporary wheel on a stand I could use in my empty vivarium until I can get a 12 inch wheel, just incase I found someone to put in there.
Whilst I was there I decided to have a look at the hamsters. I had decided I wouldn't get a hamster until there was one I full on fell in love with and I was expecting to come out empty handed as I'd gone into the local pet store recently and didn't find anyone who jumped out at me.
Well... I didn't come out empty handed.
My new little girl in her carry case.
The entire time I was there, even after the other hamsters went back to bed after being woken by the shop assistant so I could have a look, she was at the glass staring out and begging attention. Even at home after a stressful move when I sat down to watch her she just wanted to get out! I opened the glass and she was a little nervous but there was no hesitation to her jumping straight on my hand and up my leg.
She says hi.
Now I just have to think of a name. :P
The only downside to this story is that the wheel I got, despite being the biggest they had, was still much too small for her! Was able to rig up my old habitrail wheel (their cages suck but I give them props on their wheel size... something like 7.5 inches which is fine for her for now) to the stand it came on though, but my gosh does it rattle. That 12 inch wheel is a priority for sure haha.
(Also, has anyone else had any strange reactions when carrying your hamster in a carry case for any reason? I had two teenagers make a face and give me a wide berth, as if the hamster that was as small as their hand was going to somehow get the lid off and attack them and only them.
I know she looks kind of rattish, but Gino, who is a grey LH hamster got some similar reactions when I took him home (though he got some "aw"s, too). People are stupid.
