Lightbulb Getting a Syrian hamster

I would like to get a golden syrian hamster near the end of september and I've already looked up on websides and videos for info on caring and taming them. I currently have two dwarfs and I will be housing my syrian in a large bin cage. I am hoping to Inquire more on them and I would like suggestions on which type of wheel I should get for it. It would certainly be more helpful if you can give me a little more on behaviour your experience with your hamster.

Syrians can have an 8" wheel minimum, though most will outgrow this and use a 11" or 12". Many people suggest Karlie Wonderland wheels, esp. for long haired hamsters, but these need to be plastikoted. A lot of people also use Trixie wheels . I use a Flying Saucer (12") as my cage isn't high enough for a "proper" wheel lol.

I ♥ Syrians. I had an eight inch wheel but TeeTee quickly outgrew it. She's about 1 year and 10 months old and I'm getting her 12 inch wodent wheel today. yay I can let you know how she likes it later.

I've never had any other kind of hamster, so I don't know the differences but ours have been curious, affectionate on their own terms, and very energetic. TeeTee has the run of a semi empty room for playtime and every day she explores it like she's never seen it before. She's FAST. We lost our other Syrian recently but he was never as fast as TeeTee. We got them at the same time but she was always larger while he was quite a bit cuddlier. He was a golden and so, so sweet.

I have TeeTee in a bin cage and she seems quite happy. I had to dissassemble a smaller cage and used the barred sections in lieu of mesh. She doesn't seem to chew the bars very often anymore and there's plenty of room to switch out toys, boxes etc. Obviously she goes into heat about every four days and there is a slight odor associated but it's nothing overpowering. She does a great impression of a log at those times and stands at attention if she sees any movement near her cage.

Btw they are crazy smart. Ours have had many escapes and adventures. Once the lid was slightly loose, once the door of the old cage gave way, once when we still had tubes, they popped open and provided a route to freedom... Luckily we always found them or ,at times, they found us

I use a six and a half inch silent spinner for my dwarfs and they have a running ball so they can run freely in my house without being worried about them escaping or getting hurt. The ball is made of soft plastic so it doesn't get damaged easily and are pretty quiet. I use the medium sized ones also so I can use it even when they grow up and that their back doesn't arch. They love it. There are sizes for Syrians too and it's completely harmless.
