Heya xx so I got my hamster 2 days ago her names ariana ☺️ I have had hamsters before but they have never nested in there tubes before. Is it ok for her to do this? Because she has all her food and nesting materials there too :/

Hi there! Welcome to HC.It's not the healthiest of places for her to sleep.tubes tend to lack ventilation and baby hams like to pee very close to their nests at first making it smelly too. I had this exact same problem when I bought Dexter home. In the end I had to take the tubes and the penthouse of her HH away as it really wasn't a good place for her to sleep. If it's possible I'd totally recommend ditching the tubes in favour for an open nest.

I agree with DexterChloe. When I first got Screech, she made a nest in the tubes. I kept emptying it every morning and placing the bedding in a hide. She got the idea and now she is in a a larger cage, she still has the tubes as she uses them to go from one level to the other, but she is older and doesn't make nests in them.
The hams will love going through the tubes and it is a decision to make wether to remove the tubes or keep emptying them daily until the ham stops.

It really isn't a great spot for a hammy to sleep. Their food gets grungy in there, the ventilation isn't the best and it's wicked hard to clean a hammy tube nest. Below is a photo of my Ted E. Bear when he was a baby and did it. I took the tubes away until he made a nest in the observation bin of his Crittertrail. Once he was settled there and he was more tame I added on the 2 side tanks and tank toppers he lives with now. He loves running through the tubes to all the parts of his setup, but he doesn't nest in them anymore.
