At first I read that like huh? What? His nose is right there.
Then I realised I said "minus his pink nose"
Oh dear god. I really did walk into that one!
:P
No worries he still has his pink nose I just meant if he didn't have a pink nose he'd be lost in the white Fitch never to be seen again! But he does still have his nose

xD Rosie made him blush!
He's a sweet and shy lil boy!

Anyways, after ages of no updates on one of my favourite fuzzies, I decided to update on him.

After much testing and checking and observing, it would appear that little Humfry is deaf. Being deaf hasn't affected his way of life here a Chez Spyro, he is just like any of my other hammies. He is such a sweet and loveable little bundle of fuzz

He was in the living room last night and my brother was round, Humfry did his usual thing where he runs and climbs on the ladder to greet the owner of the vibrations around his cage. My brother was so captivated by his gorgeous fuzziness he helped himself and got Humfry out of his cage while I was out the room and peeing! I was very impressed as my brother isn't much of a "hamster guy" apparently :P

Humfry, has continued to amaze me every day, every week, he came to the Spyro Hamily as an absolutely minute hammy, weighing in at a measely 54g - which was significantly smaller than Benny had been when he came.
Soon after Humfry joined the hamily, we lost Benny to a suspected hereditary "illness" or major organ failure.

I feared, everyday that my even tinier baby Humfry was going to go the same way. But the weeks have flown by and Humfry is doing FANTASTIC despite early worries and now his deafness.
10weeks later - wow has it really only been 10 weeks? - and my little fuzzbutt weighs in at JUST under 100g. I am so so chuffed to report this gain, I will be even more chuffed when he reaches 108g and I can say his weight has slowly but surely doubled

Since gaining more weight, Humfry now even has a pull-able scruff!

Humfry is fast becoming a <3 ham here, everybody loves his crazy outgoing nature and his beautiful markings.

Speak of the devil and he shall arise! He's just taking a mid snooze drink and he'll be back to bed

I've attached more photos of my fuzzymouse!

My children left pizza crusts and had little Humfry on the dining table, Humfry made a beeline for the pizza, he only had a tiny nibble before I intervened :P
Also, there's a picture of Humfry "choosing" a treat from his treat pot from my friend

Humpfy Jr. is as adorable as ever. I find it quite interesting of his deafness though. I have a litter here of which I know the sire and the Dam. The Dam is marked almost exact to Humpfy(though she is SH) and she acts deaf in one ear( she's constantly cocking her head to the right when she hears any sounds, and she delivered 5 pups in which 2 are Anophthelmic Whites.
I try my best to avoid the Wh gene in my own breeding stock other then on cream based colors, and though the Wh gene often adds more splash to a Dominant Spot pattern, I don't want it in there.

However this was not my breeding, but was a rescue mission.(Owner was told they had two males and they would get along together for ever by the pet store)

I went to have these two Deaf and blind pups who were at that time not really thriving PTS but on the drive to the Vets they were begging attention and so very normal acting I just couldn't do it so took them both back home. One pup appears to be LH and Female and one is SH and Male. Sire of the litter was all white with tiny spots of Black all over. Both parents had red glow eyes like your Humpfy has too.

I'm glad deafness doesn't seem to effect a tame hamster much if they still can see, and your boy is a beautiful one indeed. Thanks so much for sharing him with us.

Thank you for sharing your story Nancy.

In my mind there is no doubts at all that Humfry is a carrier of the Wh gene. For me. It's his eyes. They're just not as they should be.
Despite his deafness, his evident carrying of Wh and his tiny size (he was obviously the runt) he is and will always be a fantastic pet hammy.
He is a beautiful boy. Stunning.

Would the ham you're talking about be a "polywhite"? I'm sure you posted pics of her on another thread of mine...?

It's good to hear how he's coming on in spite of the problems he's had.
I love that pizza crust shot, he looks oh so innocent lol!

I posted pics of my Polywhite Male Mataz but never did Kalia as she was pregnant and ready to birth. The male did look like Mataz though. I lost Mataz quite a while back suddenly and without warning. I suspected he was not what I was told he was and was a Black Dominant Spot, Polywhite, and Wh. Mataz bred one Black Tort and only produced 3 pups which the only Dominant Spot Polywhite died very early. The Black pup I lost from the bedding was his daughter, the other pup was a normal Black Tort and was not suitable for using in a breeding program and was petted out.

So I decided to steer clear of the very spotted Black Dominant Spots with red glow eyes as I am unsure what killed Mataz and having Anophthalmic whites and really early dying pups from Mataz it could have been genetic issues. Humfry makes a wonderful pet just as he is the cutie patootie.

Nice to see some more photos of your tiny little Syrian and that he’s thriving despite being so small. The treat he chose looks nearly as big as him!

Looks like he has a good appetite though which is great.
