Re: The James Rodriguez thread
James is so gorgeous! I love her chocolate color! I would love to have a hamster that color some day!

Re: The James Rodriguez thread
James seems much more settled. We have discovered she thinks broccoli is OK and prefers the stalk to the flowers. I could almost hear her saying "this isn't a pea. Where is my pea?!" when she nibbled on the broccoli for the first time.
Our local farm shop sold out of the fresh peas before we dropped by!!! Will have to sneak some from mum's garden.
Tonight _Nod put her on the stairs and she did an excellent job learning how to climb them. Getting down was a different story, and she was less wriggly than I expected when I carried her back to her cage. She is still super active, but I don't mind that. How could anyone mind a cute chocolate hamster dangling from the roof of her cage from a single paw? Silly bean. She gets herself in the most awkward positions.

Re: The James Rodriguez thread
LOL. Just when you think you've seen it all, they come up with something new. The stairs are a great idea for exercise, and there is no where for them to go. Wears them out a bit. I can't do stairs, but I do wish I had them just for my hams . If you try her on new things young, she'll develop a taste for a whole range of fruits and veggies. But I do love how well a pea fits in their hands. The picture below was Ted E's first Pea. He was so little. *sigh*

So adorable! Stair-time is often the only thing that makes my hams tired enough to stop destroying their cages at night, it's definitely a fantastic time for them

Re: The James Rodriguez thread
James has now decided that something is even cooler than treats: climbing on me. She has realised I am her ticket out of the cage and now rejects even the tastiest meal worm to climb up my arm. (Ok, she has one sneaky mealworm first!)
She has also decided that she has mastered 'up the stairs'* and wants to learn how to go down. So far, though, she has needed me to do this.
*she is one smart cookie. She has realised going up means reaching the top and reaching the top leads nowhere but back in her cage. Clearly 'down' is the ticket to freedom...!

What a good, cute little girl! My Java climbs up my arm and all around, haha. Freedom is nice, isn't it!

Re: The James Rodriguez thread
Also, I've confirmed she's not perfectly chocolate on her back. She has two symmetrical faint tiny white, well blended spots on her haunches. Easy to miss if you aren't staring for hours. I wonder what this means?
