Darwin's Photo Album
Darwin
Okay so here are some photographs of Darwin, he's a male Syrian and is 8 weeks old. I'm not sure what the name of his fur is, so if somebody could help me define it I would appreciate it.
Currently he loves digging in his sand bath and really likes deep substrate! Within second of being put in his transport box he had got himself out, he had to be put in another one which was then placed in a box for guinea pigs... despite this he still almost got out during the five minute car journey!
He has such a huge character and will come to the bars and show you how much he loves his wheel; was so glad I was there the first time he used it; he learned really quickly! Anyway, here are the photos!

Re: Introducing Mr Darwin (Syrian)
Soooo cute !! If he's 8 weeks old, I think he's too young for a wheel as they can spend too much energy onto it... Maybe some one could validate this information...
BOTH.... Ohhhhh gosh !! He's got a little something... Like charisma ?? I love the 3rd pictu where he is CLEARLY looking at you !! LOL Be carefull !! You'll get under his spell !!
Can't wait to hear more about him !!

Re: Introducing Mr Darwin (Syrian)
He seems to look at me before he does something, like he's saying "I'll show you what you do with this" then after will look at me for approval lol. He has a fondness for sweetcorn, he was stuffing it into his pouches when I chose him and now loves his dried sweetcorn hanging supplement.
I didn't realise he was too young for a wheel, he was very addicted to yesterday when I checked up on him, if he's on it a lot this evening do you think I should remove it?

I'd say monitoring is good as for now... But if I remember right, I've read to not give a wheel before few weeks/months... I wish someone would come and valid my memory !! LOL So it's not like he's gonna die right away, but until someone validates (or not) my info, just monitor to make sure he doesn't go too crazy on it !

Re: Introducing Mr Darwin (Syrian)
He's gorgeous, i want him!! i have 5/6 week old hammies use wheels fine and it's not affected them in any way. Ie.. Ivy has had a wheel since 5 weeks old she's now 7 months old and is a big chunky healthy lady hamster.

Re: Introducing Mr Darwin (Syrian)
He calmed down with the wheel a bit now but here is a photo of him running on it this was taken yesterday just before we took him out in the ball for play/taming time.
Here is a picture of him foraging in the food bowl, he simply adores sweetcorn and will go for those first, but doesn't seem to be able to get them off the chew dangling thing I have inside the cage; so I've took to removing them myself and adding them to the food bowl..
You may have read in another thread that I mentioned he's not nesting in any of his hidey houses, instead he has made multiple open nests! Here are two of the stranger ones, one is in the food bowl while the other is the sand bath!
