Introducing my new hammy! (PICSSS!)
Hi guys, this is my new hammy. He's an 8 week old syrian, called Xirsi (pronounced Hir-see). In the pictures he looks quite dark but his coat is actually quite a mousy brown (anyone else see the irony? )
anyways erm sorry about the poor picture quality it was taken on my phone in a dark room as my hammy tends to run and hide if I put the lights on without covering his cage with something.(which doesn't make much sense as before I got him the previous owner kept him in a fully lit bright cage most hours of the day)
Anyways I just want to quickly say thank you, as I've been on hamster central for about a month now and I only got my hammy yesterday but I've asked a few questions over the past month and everyone has been so lovely so thank you all for your help with everything.

Re: Introducing my new hammy!
Congratulations on your new addition. The pics don't seem to be showing though.
I would not bother covering him up. It will just take time for him to get adjusted to his new cage and home and then he will get into a routine and become settled. It is early days yet so be patient and gentle and he will soon come round.

Re: Introducing my new hammy!
I just love that you did research BEFORE you got Xirsi. Smart move and very good for your little furry. So many people don't and wind up learning in emergency situations. He is very cute. If you consider what the world looks like to him, and how big everything else is, it makes sense that they get frightened. Time fixes that, especially if you are gentle and calm when you are with him.
