I'd say yes to that. Simply because it would make both you and our hamster very uncomfortable if she was to wake up fully rested during the train ride and find herself enclosed in such a small space. I know it would certainly drive my little girl crazy
No rules without exceptions, and in my opinion this would count as an exception.
My approach to waking up my hammie (when I must) is to shake her food box around and open the lid, so she can hear and smell that it's feeding time. I'll pick something particularly tasty and hold it right outside her house. She'll smell it and poke her nose out, and this way I'm gradually able to persuade her to come out. Now follow up with more treats, but make her work for them to keep your hammie interested (and awake). I always make sure she gets enought time to finish her required grooming session and toilet visit before I take her out for her "trim" though
