Hamster weight

My male syrian is only 75g and looks quite thin. Is there any different food i can give him to help him put on weight? x

There are quite a lot of foods your can give your hamster to bring their weight up- although obviously once a good weight is achieved they should go back to being treats! Fatty foods like peanuts or sunflower seeds, mealworms, scrambled egg- no milk or butter!, baby food- no garlic, onion, pepper, other flavourings- a simple vegetable one is best although it can have chicken in, little scraps of chicken or turkey, pasta (cooked as normal and left to cool), whole grain rice (same as pasta).
You might not want to try all of them, the seeds should be a bit hit and your could combine with a few others. Basically it's a trial and error with what your hamster likes. We've tried the egg and baby food with our hamsters and they went down a treat!!

The key to growth seems to be plenty of protein. If you are in the UK, try Silver's mix. If you are in North America, Hazel Hamster has a similar level of protein. You can also supplement with other protein sources such as mealworms, chicken, fish etc. I also fatten up my older hams with bits of fat cake, made for birds, which contains insects.
