Gorgeous Siouxsie Sioux
Hey everyone,
People referred me to this subforum for posting pictures of my wonderful Siouxsie Sioux... Siouxsie is a few months old now... not yet half a year.. and she's sweet, funny, intelligent, beautiful but not so photogenic (she will not sit still for a picture!)
She lives in the biggest cage I could find 4 years back, and right now I'm working on a new cage that's even bigger! But it needs a tank below it, and before I got a tank, I can't put down the new cage.
Behold, the gorgeous Siouxsie Sioux:

Re: Gorgeous Siouxsie Sioux
As I said, biggest that I could find in 2008 Hamsters LOVE it though... always busy doing things...
People always ask if I wont "lose" my hamster in such a cage, and that hamsters can't be tame in a cage that big... but, hamsters always love me... they will sit at the door "Let me out I wanna cuddle/run on the bed/be in the play pen" etc.
Never had a biter in this cage. I even had hamsters from the shelter that were known to be biters... never bit me and I could pick them up like any other hamster

Re: Gorgeous Siouxsie Sioux
Hej, ben je nederlands?
Siouxsie is erg mooi. Ze lijkt op mijn hamster Penny.
Hoe groot is uw kooi? 100 x 50 x 100 cm? It looks quite huge for a wired cage.
Was that right??? If you're not Dutch then just ignore my failed attempt ...
By the way, how do you pronounce her name? It's like Susie Sue, right?

Re: Gorgeous Siouxsie Sioux
100x55x89H, and yes, I am Dutch, but I rather talk English for the other people
And yes, it's Susie-Sue... Sometimes I call her "Soesje" ... (This is Dutch for creampuff)
The next cage will be 100x50x165H I doubt she will miss those 5cms
Just looked at your Penny, she's a pretty little tricolor too... I have a weak for them *blush*

Re: Gorgeous Siouxsie Sioux
Oh, me too! I have a tricolour kitty as well. I've always wanted a Black Banded TTS hammie, but then I already had 5 of my own and 2 fosters so I wasn't looking to adopt any new hamsters but when I saw her I just couldn't resist, especially since both fosters went to really good homes. Tricolours just have a special charme to them, don't know how to explain but around here the people say they're good luck. I also love how none of them look exactly alike. They always have different markings and spots which make them so unique. How many levels will the new cage have? I bet she'll love it. Don't think she'll miss those 5 cm either if she can have so much more in height.

Re: Gorgeous Siouxsie Sioux
The new cage will have different levels... all connected with bridges and stairs... but it will be more playful than this one...
My tricolor kitty just died this summer, she became 13... we got a lot of bad luck with pets dying young the last few years... A month ago one of our red cats died, he became 10.
Before Siouxsie I had Lieffie, and she became a year and a half... found her in a very nasty way, I accidentally left the door of the cage open for the first time in her whole life... and she jumped out.. probably had the time of her life, climbed up the curtains onto the table, and then probably had a heartattack or something and fell over into a bucket of water :/ but there was only 1cm of water in. And she had no drowning symptoms at all. I was devastated. She was so sweet and if I was awake she would jump out of her nest (she refused to live in a house) to come running to me...
Lieffie was a dove-tricolor. Very beautiful too
The hamster before Lieffie only became 8/9 weeks... found her choked on her bedding... (not hamster-nest, just normal sawdust). Before that one, I had Bowie, and she only became a year... then I had a hamster from the pound which I didn't know a name of... and she lived only 3 months with me :/ And before that Toetie... And Toetie & Siouxsie are exactly the same in behavior and looks... like a reincarnation! Toetie became a year and a half, died washing herself... she still had her back paw near her mouth, as if she washed that paw the last.. :/ And the hamster before Toetie became 3 and a half years... had to put him to sleep cause he had cancer that broke out.
If they really bring luck... I would've noticed I think... :P Not too much luck, but they sure have a special charm. Somehow Tricolors to me, are the best hamsters... I doubt I will ever have another color again :P One day I'd like a choco-tricolor
