Default Do hamsters get ticks?

Why did my hamster have a spot on her back, though she didn't lose any of her fur. It felt lumpy and red. Do hamsters get tick? Please help me to find out what it was. Its gone now but I'm desperate to find out what it was. One day it was there, the next it was gone!

Best thing to do is phone a vet and ask them or go to a pet shop and see if they know and yes hamsters do get ticks so i would treat her anyway its not to expensive. :P

Ticks would have to get on to a hamster from something else. My cats have them occasionally but they spend a lot of time outside in the long grass where ticks hang around waiting for suitable animals to walk past to they can attach themselves. Ticks can attach to any animal but I would think it unlikely that your hamster has been anywhere that ticks are unless she's been outside.

Here is a good link for tick info Lyme Disease Action About Ticks | Lyme Disease Action

The ticks we most often see in the UK are sheep ticks, they look like a pale beige-brown-grey lump & they grow as they drink blood. If you see a tick then you have to be careful how you remove it in case of leaving the mouth parts behind. A special tick-removing tool can be bought cheaply from the pet shop or vets.

Ticks are not really active this time of year in the UK, they prefer warmer weather.

If all you can see on your hamster is a red lump then I doubt you have a tick. It would probably be worth seeing a vet with your hamster if you have a lump & don't know what it is or it's getting worse or the hamster seems in pain or is not behaving normally.
