Default LJ's A GIRL!!! PLEASE READ!!!

Well some of you will remember when I first got Lj. And I told you how the pet shop people didn't really know if he was a girl or boy. We assumed he was a boy because I rung the pet shop and asked if they had any girl hamsters in, they said no, only males. But last night after I went to pick him up from my best friend's house after arriving back from holiday my best mate's mum (who is a nurse) said "Katie love, Lj's a girl!!!" I can't believe it! My mum, who is a biology teacher has always thought he was a girl and now I believe her! We've called her Amy because I've always liked that name. She's also nibbled through her cage and I think I might have to get a new one! Cheeky little madam! Thanks and love xxx

Happens all the time don’t trust most pet stores to sex a rodent for you. It's best if you just learn yourself. I’m glad that you didn’t find out by means of finding little pinkies like some unfortunate people do... :P

The same thing happened to me with my longhaired angel Charlie, he was pronounced a girl at the pet shop, got him home and thought to myself, he's a boy, I know he's not a girl... I was proven right a few weeks later when his pompoms showed through his fur.

Default Male longhaired hamsters

I hear the excuse all the time the petstore couldn't sex him properly because he had longhair... never had a problem myself and it is not like they are born with it that long - at weaning time longhaired hamsters look pretty similiar to shorthaired hamsters except a little more fluffier and slighty wavy/curly often.

and finally the pompom shot... anyone got a magnifying glass... the genital/anus distance is clearly obvious at this age... So what they are saying is they didn't bother to seperate them by sex at 21-28 days like they should so have been negligent...
