Well, that's fantastic news - I had this nightmare image of going to Holmfirth, and Wes being half the size! I'd die of embarassment! I do feed them, honest!
|
That's exactly how I feel about Gizmo - I don't mind if he doesn't do too well, but worry that people think that I don't feed him enough or look after him properly (He does still carry very good genes, so we are still considering having babies from him though) I guess Amelie shows that I do look after them/feed them enough though.

Yeah, I had a little bit of that at Topcliffe - poor Hobbs looked so tiny in his pen, compared to all the others!!!

But he was so so sweet Gus, and the thing that always strikes someone coming to a show for the first time is the size of breeder hams!
He probably wont ever be a huge huge boy Gus, some of it of course is care and feeding, but some is pure and simple inheritance, and size isnt as important as other areas!

No, you are right it could happen Matty, but I am fairly certain that Hobbs isn't going to be a 200g hamster any time soon! but thats okay, size is 10 points at the end of the day, and so as long as he reaches a normal adult size, he will show well I am sure. He did very well at Topcliffe, didn't he Gus, despite being a toddler!

He got his Reserve place, which was very well done for a pet shop rescue!
He's been suitably treated, let me tell you!
I don't think he'll be huge - certainly, not in the way female hams carry their weight. But he's still very visibly growing, and it will be interesting to see how he grows and matures

Week 4!!!
Well, nearly - we're away this weekend, so I thought I would post the update now.
Week 4 commencing weights:
Bob - 190g (+10g)
Harry - 150g (+5g)
Hobbs - 140g (+10g)
Wes - 140g (+15g)
First, an apology - to Harry; as restricting his wheel last about 30 seconds. With starting a new job this week, I've not had chance to spend as much time as I would have liked with the hamsters - and Harry has been one casualty
However, he did make a gain! So well-done, little man!
Bob is pretty much where we need her to be, so we'll be adjusting the diet to match - she looks a fine weight, and we'd like to maintain that now.
The prediction that Wes would catch up with Hobbs has proven right - Wes is a fine-looking young ham, with plenty of shape; Hobbs is that much more lithe in comparison, and carries his weight in a very different manner. He seems such a long hamster!
Wouldn't mind an opinion on the 19th, mind

Those gains are very impressive Gus! They all seem to be coming on well.
Don't worry, the wheel restriction didn't work for me either, they were just all so distressed by it - but they are all still gaining weight well.

Well, I'm guessing a little bit of Lactol, makes a lot of difference!
They've certainly not been inundated with it; but the adjustment to tofu and porridge has paid dividends.
