Well I've never had a Syrian hamster before (ok, so I've never had a hamster before!) so I don't know how big he is in comparison to other hammies, but he is a decent size. He can easily fit through the Ferplast hamster-sized tubes though so I don't think he's excessively big for a hamster.
The chair he's on is a normal Ikea computer chair (complete with rainbow-coloured cushion!) so you can get the idea of Herbert's size.

Aww what a beautiful boy Herbert is. I love that 'stand up and beg' pose in the first photo! Maybe he thought your OHs hand had a little treat in for him?
If my Bramble were a little bit younger (she is a golden banded too) then she would certainly be batting her eyelashes at Herbert!

Herbert says thank you for the compliments!
He's only 6 months old apparently, so still quite young. He is a character! He tires quite quickly when he's out so I don't think he's that fit but hopefully his Wodent Wheel will come today so that he can exercise properly.
I love to sit and watch him carefully gathering food in his cage and taking to his special 'stashing place'. He loves curly kale too, I'm slowly introducing him to fresh foods as I'm not sure whether he will have had any before. He was sooo excited to see the kale, bless him! I just wish my husband was so eager to eat his veggies!!
