Hello everyone
I thought i'd give you all an update on my day yesterday. I was off out to the shops with my other half and we decided to have our weekly nosey in Pets at Home at the hamsters, bunnies etc. My intentions were to just look as i was really wanting to get a hamster from a breeder. However.......
When we went to look at the hamsters there was this gorgeous golden hammie in a cage with a white, red eyed one and it was just asking for attention. He/she (?) melted my heart when it licked my finger through a gap down the side and i was sooooo tempted...... by this point my partner was giving me the normal count down - i.e 'if you've not decided in 5minutes i'm buying a xbox360!!'. I took a wander back around to see him/her and the white one was bullying it to the extent the golden one was on its back and squeeling!!
There was no way i was leaving him/her in there with the other one so i made my mind up there and then and bought him/her!!
I had to buy a new cage as i only had 2 savic rodys and wanted more room for the little one, so we picked up a Savic Cambridge and i also bought a larger roly wheel as the one it comes with is far too small.
So.... home we went and set up the cage, opened the box and hammie came straight out exploring his/her new home! Took a while to get up the ladders but got there in the end! All seems well just now, was sitting down near the cage talking gently so will start the next stage of the taming process tonight.
Have not got pictures as yet as i dont want to get off on the wrong foot by frightening him/her, although hammie seems pretty content and not shy so far, i still dont want to push my luck
Just realised i have babbled on a bit now so will leave it here for now, i will post later with some pictures and hopefully a name for the little one. Oh also, when i have pics on i think i may need someone to help decide if it is a he or she! The shop told me it was male but from exprience i know not to trust them. Its rear end certainly doesnt have the obvious bump? but he/she looks pretty young so dont know whether it will become more apparent later on. Anyway, best be off!
Bye for now,
Jayne
