These are my two new babies:

First of all Chunky, he is 5 weeks old.

and Berry - she is 6 weeks old

They are both very tame already so even I can handle them!

They are both beautiful, Basia (as I knew they would be )...Chunky certainly is chunky (the size difference of "breeder hams" still amazes me) and I can ssee he's a sable but is he long or short haired? And Berry is a Satin - what colour is she?

Slightly off topic but I saw on another forum that you have one of them in a Karlie cage - I've never heard of this and wondered if you could post a picture?

Hi Holly - thanks for your lovely comments.
Chunky is a long-haired sable. Berry is a long-haired satin cream roan. She is already as big as Fuzzy.
The cage I was talking about is this one:

The drawback to it was it had wire shelves. I have ordered a savic plastic floor for it but while I'm waiting I have just threaded a thick plastic placemat through the bars and actually that probably would have been fine. It has good floor space as you can see. Basil is in there and he really loves it. I felt very guilty turfing him out of his Imac but I split it back into 2 separate cages and gave them to the babies, without the loft so I can just lift the top off to handle them more easily.
They are so tame I want to keep them that way. [/img]

Long haired satin cream Roan - that is a gorgeous colour that I haven't seen before

It does look a good cage with a lot of floor space - I'm sure Basil likes it

I see, in the background, you have the same poster on your wall as us - I think we are both addicted to the world of hamsters :P ...hopefully we'll meet you at a show soon (I can't make the next Northern one due to work so I'm going to see if I can get to a Midland one instead).

Yes I had pretty much made up my mind I wanted a sable. I used to breed siamese sable netherland dwarf rabbits which are much the same colour, so when I saw them at the show they appealed to me straight away. There were 2 cream roans in the Berry's litter, I chose Berry out of the 2 because she had a prettier face I thought, although the other one had more colour. Chunky has a sable roan mother and he had a sable roan brother who was really gorgeous. I am hoping that I might get a sable roan baby from these two.
I would like to go to a few shows, hopfully I will then get to meet my friends from the forums. (The computer is also on hamster central in the background ) Hopelessly addicted....
Hubby thinks the sables look like rats! I too think they look like little bears.

I'm also amazed how tame they are so quickly. I knew thay had been 'intensively' handled for the last 10 days but have both settled in so quickly, got used to hearing the dogs and family noise (it was much quieter where they came from). I can handle both of them easily, they have never shown any definsive body language. Berry is the livlier for the two, she likes to run around, so she won't stay on me for long. I can stroke and cuddle Chunky on my lap for about 5 minutes, he is so laid back. He is also happy on his wire and lets me groom him, he even sits up so I can do his undies! I am so pleased with them both. They have also given me confidence to handle my others, Sid was already very tame but Fuzzy was still quite jumpy but now I have been shown how to pick her up so she can't jump or bite she is already calming down. Not sure Basil will ever get there though. Have to admit I am a bit frightened of him now - he bites hard.
