Since our hammies look alike I think I can already tell ya the color.. I was told this color was called Umbrous Golden.

Babyboos told me that you don't see many with such dark shading like that around. She said..

Thats how my hammy looks lol!

I would say Carmelo is a Golden Syrian. He has typical Golden markings and he does not have a huge amount of ticking. Goldens should be evenly ticked with black and the undercoat should be a dark grey colour. Teddy Bear hamsters are not an actual colour or type. They are just a name given by pets shops to put up the price of hamsters by saying they are something special. Panda bear hamsters are the same. They are simple black banded or dominant spot animals. If you blow on his coat you will see each hair will be dark grey then a bit of deep russet orange then the very end will be black or dark brown. That is the ticking.
Here is our Golden Sonni. I think you will agree she looks like Carmelo! Bye the way this is a young hamster and you can clearly see the downy fur on her ears. She was 4 months then. Does Carmelo still have this?

I am pretty sure Hammis is a banded cream. The cream in a red eyed hamster should be a rich deep pinky peachy cream to the roots. A black eyed would usually be darker with more a deep sandy tone. Hammis is a mix of red and black eyed so it is hard to tell which gene the red and black goes with as you can get both red and black eyed creams and both red and black eyed whites! Does Hammis have patchwork ears? Often banded hamsters do have ears with pink and black marks on them. A cream would be the same colour to the root of the hairs. I have seen a few odd eyed hamsters about but they are not very common.

Okay, now wait a second here! Carmelo and Gwendolyn look pretty much the same to me! I was told that Gwen was a Golden Umbros coloration. So that being said.. if Carmelo is a Golden, whats the different between a Golden Umbros and a golden?

Comparing these two images of Gwen and Carmelo?

Carmelo

And my Hammy Gwen

Hmm I suppose that Gwen looks to have a darker back. But they are pretty much identical!

The Umbrous gene causes a darkening of the normal Golden agouti colouring particularly on the belly and crescents (black cheek stripes!) Looking at Gwen she does have very dark ticking on her cheeks and head and the belly looks quite dark. Also her back is dark. If you look at the pics of Carmelo from above he is not nearly as dark as Gwen and his ticking is not so dark either. His belly fur is also paler. Our Sonni is definitly confirmed Golden but her coat is not that well ticked. The Umbrous gene is a dominant gene.

Yes Minicooper I am fairly sure Hammis is a Cream banded
