Default Cleaning a sand bath?

I have a sand bath for Zero, he absolutely loves it, and uses it as his potty, every morning I clean out all the poop (who knew a little dwarf could poop that much! ) and try and get the clumps from pee. How often should I completely empty it and fill it up with new sand? It is starting to stink a little, so mabye whenever it starts stinking? I don't want it to be unhygienic.

I spot clean every day or two but fully empty it once a week. I just rinse it with water unless it REALLY smells, and only wash it with soap every 3-4 weeks

A lot depends on how big the sand bath is & how much it gets used, I scoop pee out of mine when needed but I've never actually had one get smelly & don't completely clean them or change all the sand that often but if yours is smelly then it's definitely time to clean it out!
How long has it been in the cage now? Maybe use that as a guide & change it after a slightly shorter time on a regular basis to stop any smell building up.

I use a sand sifter from Pet Smart & clean out the debris, then wash the sand bath & put back the sifted sand & maybe a little more sand to it.

I've only emptied & changed sand bath completely once in 5-6 months, just keep on sifting every time it needs it.

I use a coffee filter for sifting out debris, then it makes a great way to pour all the clean sand back into the sand bath.

Ah, it's been about a week... does the sifter have to be fine? How much are those could you gr a fine sifter from walmart? I have one of the huge bags of sand so it's not a big deal to clean and empty it

My sifter isn't that fine, but it picks up the bedding she drags in there with her, marking her territory or whatever she is up to? She doesn't poop in the sand bath, only pees in there, which is nice cause I don't have to clean her cage that often

I'm using chinchilla sand so I'm trying to save as much of it as I can. But if you have a lot of sand you could try a sifter in the kitchen department or get a little sifter from Pet Smart. They are only .99 cents

If you have a huge bag of sand, I'm assuming you have a Syrian? I have dwarves so maybe sift the sand only if youu want to conserve sand. If not just empty and clean the sand bath how often you think it would be necessary.

If you want to conserve sand I would look into Pet Smart's sifter.

No, he's a winter white dwarf, I just got the bag cause it was like 5 dollars at Walmart and the sand attest ores was about 10 for 1/30 of the amount. And ok, sounds good
