Default Not a hamster but...

Just thought I'd share a photo of a baby squirrel I found last week. I was on a night stop and the tiny squirrel ran into my room. It was around sunset and his parents were nowhere to be seen so I made a nest out of a towel and kept him warm until the next morning.

I googled if squirrels reject their young after human contact and luckily they do not so next morning.at sunrise I took him outside and moved off a short distance. He began calling and within ten minutes an adult squirrel cautiously appeared and took him gently by the scruff of his neck to where I presume their nest was. Great success!

Well done, Vierville. It must be a very young squirrel judging from the photograph. Good to know it's safe.

I'd never seen a baby squirrel before, but that is so cute. It must be very young. Do you have different species of squirrels where you are, because it doesn't look like a grey or a red squirrel like we have in the UK?

I think he is a Smith's Bush Squirrel. We get two kinds of squirrel here in South Africa - the Cape Ground Squirrel and the Smith's Bush Squirrel. I think he was the former.

I'm sorry I'm squealing over here because squirrels are one of my favourite animals! It's so cute! And it's great that it's back with its parent now.

What a lovely experience with a happy ending to see a baby squirrel close up. In fact, you resued him because a cat could have easily had him for supper. Such a cute little thing too.

Thank you for doing that ! Most people would have thought he was abandoned and brought him home...
