Default The Mousey thread

So I decided to go ahead and make my new little ones their very own thread! Now they won't have to hijack Kopi's thread
They're fully settled now and seem to be enjoying their cage quite a bit. I plan to buy them another wheel (or maybe a saucer) so they don't all have to pile onto their wodent wheel. Today they went into the bathtub for playtime for the first time ever! I got lots of pics

*Picture heavy*

Cautiously leaving their boxes

My shyest little one deciding whether or not to come out- she never really did

Look just how prehensile mouse tails are!

Mousey bum (I got this castle thingy from a garage sale to use in some photoshoots. I always see people taking adorable pictures of their small animals in doll houses and similar things)

I love that you can see her reflection in the fake mirror lol

Shrew eating some rice. I have named her as the name just stood out to me, but the others still await their names!

Sorry for the urine stained towel throughout the pics lol

Hope you've all had a good weekend

What type of mouse are they? They don't look like any I have seen with that coloring.

They're your average fancy mice (mus musculus) or technically the house mouse, but domesticated. I have very little knowledge of mouse coat type, but I think they're satins, hence why they're so super shiny! Their coloration appears to be recessive yellow, as I know lethal yellow is rare, but still I'm going to watch for health issues. For a breakdown on each

Shrew: Recessive? Satin Yellow
Red-eyed mouse (no name): Recessive? Satin Yellow with pink eye dilute
White head (no name): Recessive? Satin Spotted yellow

I'm going to do a bit more research into their colors and genetics before saying anything too confidently

So very cute! Ive never been much of a mouse or rat fan but how can anyone resist those cute little faces! Maybe in the future I'll look into mice. Right now the boys are about all I can handle though lol.

They are so lovely and shiny! I didn’t know you coudl get satin mice - though, to be fair, I know very little about mice. The thing I like most about mice (and rats) I think, is probably their tails! Always loved mice and rats, but never had any - well, except the mouse (Jerry) that my brother and I nursed back to health after one of our cats caught him, but he went back into the wild. Do they let you touch their tails at all?

That background is very cool. Wonder if I could buy something similar...

Can’t wait to hear what you decide on for the other names.

I never knew mice could be satins either, but I'm currently studying genetics and mice are one of my model animals. I've learned a bunch about their colors, patterns, and fur types. I love their tails too! It's their tails that are responsible for many people's hatred of them which I never understood Shrew is definitely the friendliest of the bunch and lets me touch her tail. The orange and white one (still a no name) also allows me. The third one, who is very shy, doesn't like being touched though. That's really nice that you nursed that mouse back to health, hope Jerry turned out alright.

I'll definitely be sure to share their names once I can decide

These are lovely photos of your girls - they have such adorable ears and tails! Love all the photos especially the 6th photo as it so cute being able to see her reflection in the mirror!
So glad that these girls have their own thread, I'm so looking forward to seeing more photos of them!
