Default Rats!!

Hi I have been recently thinking and researching as I always do before getting any new pets. I just need some advice on cages, would a cage like this be suitable or would I need to get one with more storeys? Savic Small Pet Cage Zeno 2: Free P&P on orders £29+ at zooplus!

I'd definitely get one with more levels, though rats wouldn't appear to appreciate it very much, height is actually one of the most important components in choosing a proper enclosure. A double ferret or critter nation cage would work best to house your rats. They can be a bit pricey up front, but will save you so much in the long run, and your rats will definitely love it! Rats are such fun little companions and I'd recommend them for anyone who is willing to put in the work for them!

Thanks for the reply, could you maybe link me to a couple of cages? I can't have any with a stand as there will be no room for it in my bedroom, I would only be able to fit the cage onto my desk and just so you know I'm thinking of only getting a pair of rats, maybe a trio.

Waaaaay too small Search up on amazon.com a double critter nation, those are what you want. I also know that Savic sells one, which would probably be easier to get a hold of in the U.K. It's called like the Savic Royal Suite XL or something. I'll attach a picture of my rattie cage to show an example!IMG_3371.JPG

It could potentially work for a pair or trio, but while it would meet requirements for four rats that would be very risky. The access is nowhere near as good as other cages mentioned like Critter Nations and the Savic Royal Suite, both of which have essentially full access to the front and are expandable not only in height but in length

Would this cage be better? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00...a-7b5108b051cd

As I'm thinking of putting the cage on my desk where Peanut's cage is currently but I will move her underneath as there is space for her cage there, she's housed in a maxi duna multy and that leaves some space on my desk so I can't really put a big cage on there

I will be ordering two hammocks, the ones which have like a pocket and I have a sputnik which my ham is not really interested in so I'll use those, I'm also ordering a savic rat tube, some cotton perching ropes and a cotton parrot ring as those seem to be the only suitable toys on zooplus that I can find, if you have any suggestions for toys could you send me some links?

The bar spacing on that cage is massive, much larger than suitable to young rats!

Avoid cotton rope.If you end up getting rats that chew, the cotton rope wouldn't be safe as cotton frays.Fleece does not, however, and is still suitable in terms of fabric items. You could instead use some small wood bird perches, just make sure they're safe wood. These are chewable and serve the same purpose but are definitely safe!
