Re: Rats!!
Also would a trixie wheel be suitable for rats or would I need a bigger make? For example this giant rolly wheel?

Re: Rats!!
It depends on how big the individual rats are! Some rats would be able to get away with a 30.5 cm(12 inch)wheel while others would need custom made larger wheels that you'd have to order online, which can get expensive.

Well as I'm getting boys they could get that large, I have a friend who made a wheel for his degus from a cooking pot and it works really well

Re: Rats!!
As long as the pot is stainless steel it should be fine, but it would still need to be a large enough diameter which you can probably find!

Just need to ask him how he did it, he did it so well that I thought it was a store bought one! His degus seem to love it too, but I'll have a look for a large wheel one should be fine, right?

Re: Rats!!
You could start with one wheel and then if necessary get another. With a body length of up to 10 inches, you may at some point need a 20 inch(50.8 cm) wheel which may not be possible to even find premade so if your rats did grow that large it would probably require DIY.

They don't even need wheels do they? They prefer to climb so they may not be interested in wheels, the only ones I can find are the 28cm ones, no bigger.

Re: Rats!!
On Etsy there are wheels which are quite a bit bigger! They're still not quite as large as they could be,but a 16 inch(40.64 cm)wheel is still a decent size that could work
Wheels vs no wheels is very much a personal opinion. It is better to have one and have them not really use it much than to not have one when they would love to use a wheel!
