My new guinea pigs
Here we have Mistletoe (blonde) and Jingle (orange);
They are from Palace piggies rescue in Crawley and are sisters. Jingle is the most outgoing of the two and has already taken food from my hand (very fast, darting straight back into her hiding place).
I give them a short laptime session every day and for the first time Jingle actually did a teeny bit of exploring before cuddling back into my armpit under my hoody. Mistletoe just sat very very still bless her.
They are about six months old.

Re: My new guinea pigs
How adorable! They sound so fun. It's good to hear that they've been rescued and given a good home where they can relax and play all day

Re: My new guinea pigs
Thanks guys! I am so delighted with them. Yep CB been watching loads of youtube stuff, piggiepigpigs, carrislittlepiggies, sugar and spice piggies and more. I made the cage liner. It has zorb in the middle and has been amazingly good at soaking up the wee.
They are getting slowly used to me.

Mistletoe and Jingle are gorgeous. It's so nice that you have adopted them and giving them both a wonderful home.

Re: My new guinea pigs
They look spoiled already! Well done too for going to a rescue. If you havn`t already, google `Peter Gurney` as this man (sadly died a few years ago) knew all the pro`s and con`s on piggy health and why vets MUST not always be trusted with guinea pigs, especially where their teeth/dental care is concerned.
He also has a book called `Piggy Potions` and a few others on ebay/Amazon. Well worth a look. x

Re: My new guinea pigs
Thank you skb I generally rescue (with a few impulse buy exceptions).
Ladytramp thanks for your kind words re; their set up. They already had those names from the rescue and I kept them cos they were lovely.
Hamsterita I agree, they do look like big hamsters!!! Cute squeaky ones.
Racing hamster I am sure that I have heard of Peter Gurney. Will check him out thanks. The (wonderful) rescue said always consult them if a vet advises pts as it may not be necessary. That was written into the adoption agreement. They dont claim to be experts but clearly know their stuff.
It was lovely being there with so many gorgeous guinea pigs.
Had another laptime this morning. They both had a tiny look around (about four paces) before hiding in the strawberry hidey house.

Re: My new guinea pigs
Looking at their long coats I feel a Hamish & Dougal coming on!!!!! They are just gorgeous! Peter Gurney`s A to Z guinea pig health pages are very good and a resource you may want to bookmark. A friend of mine has a six year old female guinea pig with hair loss and the vet told her it could be a parasite or dietary related. Wrong on both counts. Although she spent good money having the mite treatment, turns out it`s hormonal and nothing can be done. They live with it basically. The rescue you got your piggies from are right to say come back to us if you see any issues that a vet dismisses. They are not always the best unless you happen to have a good small animal specialist.
