Sorry to hear you lost you Betta badwolf, they are lovely fish. A friend of mine had two (separately) and had a beautiful Betta shipped in, but not long after that she lost him and she has a tropical tank. I fancied a Paradise fish, these are also kept on their own like Bettas, or at least the males are, but given the issues mentioned, I`ve decided the costs would possibly outweigh the positives. The testing kits for the water alone can be costly and some filter sponges require changing monthly, so these all add up. And that`s without the various foods the fish enjoy and thrive on. x

Oh I know. Too many people think they're boring cause you can't take them out and play with them. I think they're so fascinating and relaxing to watch.

Thank you, racinghamster. They really are amazing wee things. Like the dog of the fish world Stark would always greet me when I came in the kitchen and would watch me and follow me about. I do love that you've actually thought so much about keeping fish. I hate it when people buy a couple of goldfish and just stick them in a bowl with no idea about what they should really be doing. Feeding them doesn't actually cost much at all, but all the equipment can add up! If you change your mind anytime soon I'm going to be selling my axolotl's old 54 litre tank. I don't know how far away from Glasgow you are, but the offer's there! Just need to give it a wee wash and get the rest of the sand out and the sticky stuff off the back where the background was attached. It's in brilliant condition.

Very kind of you badwolf. Just wish I was in a positive mind to get the fish and make my decision. Although I don`t think I could make a final decision right now as I have some health issues going on and can`t make up my mind.

What fun you must have with your 'zoo' animals. How neat! I've skimmed through some of the other replies on this post and was wondering why the axolotls are illegal, and I wonder if they're legal in West Virginia, USA?
