Sleeping cat
This might seem an odd question, but do cats breathe deeply when asleep? I just popped to the bathroom to brush my hair as it always looks like I got dragged through a hedge backwards LOL. The cat was asleep in his usual spot outside the bathroom door. I was unsure if he was breathing or not, but then saw him move like once or twice. But I am wondering if when they sleep they breathe so deep it might not look like they are breathing? I haven't really explained that too well ...
This sounds nasty, but I didn't touch him because I have a massive phobia of touching anything that is dead, so didn't want to touch him just in case ... Should I be worried? His abcess he had has either got worse or he has a new one. The owner is still insisting on using these stupid homeopathic tablets (which clearly are not working!) but I am going to risk taking the cat to the vet next week if I can get him an appointment. I have decided I don't care if I get kicked out, because the cat's health should come first!

Re: Sleeping cat
Is old that cat? My cat, when she was old, breathed so light that I thought she was dead like a million times! She was not ill, she just sleeped like that

Re: Sleeping cat
He's around 13ish, maybe a little older? Can't remember exactly when we got him, and he was 1 when we got him ... So yeah he's an old man LOL

Re: Sleeping cat
13 isn't old for a cat. Cats live up to 20 years old. Sometimes when they're in a deep sleep it looks like they're not breathing, they take shorter breaths than we do because they're smaller. I wouldn't worry about him breathing. It's normal, all of my 5 cats do it.

Re: Sleeping cat
No worries then... He is just old. The abcess is a different thing. Maybe you can tell his owner, "ok, tomorrow I will visit the vet. I will take the cat. What do you think?"
Maybe the owner is ok with the idea if you say that a second opinion does not hurt...
