A Gerbil named Cruz...
Hi all,
I finally got a chance to snap some pics of the gerbil I recently adopted, who is now officially named Cruz. Unfortunately, I couldn't get any really good pics as he's not so familiar with the concept of staying still for more than half a second, if even that. I'm hoping to be able to get some better pics of him in the future but for now, here's him in the second level of his temp cage (the first level is even worse for pics as it's all substrate and if he's there, he's probably underground)

Re: A Gerbil named Cruz...
He`s lovely! If that`s a wire surface he`s standing on though I would advise covering it with either a piece of cardboard or a grass matt as wire under the feet can cause bumblefoot, a bacterial infection that causes swollen pustules to form. Just to be careful really more than anything. He can chew whatever you choose to cover the wire with but that`s okay as grass matts are cheap from pet stores and cardboard boxes come free! x

Re: A Gerbil named Cruz...
Cruz is a lovely name and congrats on adopting this lovely gerbil. If you're in England, Poundland have the bendy bridges and they're also good for covering the wire.

Re: A Gerbil named Cruz...
Pigmypuff: He is my first gerbil. I can't seem to get a handle on his coloring--in the store he appeared white and greyish/silverish. I noticed after about a week or so here though that his fur looks to have a brownish tint to it so is more brownish-greyish/silverish.
racinghamster and Thin Lizzy- The wire he's standing on is the only wired flooring in his set up--it's where his bottom cage/digging area is connected with the top cage. The wired floor is actually the top/roof of his bottom cage. The actual cages themselves are plastic bins so when he's out of the little wired area where he goes from the bottom cage to the top, he's on wire but once he's in his bin/cage, he's on solid ground again. The wired area itself measures probably 5-6". Of course he has that small amount of wired flooring and a much larger area of solid flooring and the only time he stays still long enough for a picture is when he's on the wires. Silly guy (although to be fair, once he's on solid flooring, there's bedding just begging to be pushed/shoved around)

Re: A Gerbil named Cruz...
Not sure on his coat colour although there are gerbil colour charts on various forums you could compare with. I`ll bet he`s enjoying his new home! x
