I'm sorry to hear it didn't go well

Definitely bleach everything, parvo is an extremely persistent virus and hard to get rid of. I would throw away any blankets or towels etc the pup was using as it will be hard to make sure these are free from the virus. Like others have said, the other dogs could pick it up if it is a different strain to the parvo they were vaccinated against, viruses mutate all the time.

I'm so sorry for your loss Nickoh. I worked for a vet for several years and have seen a number of parvo cases. Young pups almost invariably die from it, though adults may have the immunity to fight it off. I agree with the information that Nancy has given you: BLEACH EVERYTHING! It's been 20 years and I still can't get the smell of parvo out of my memory

Oh Nickoh I'm so very sorry you were posting as I was typing my very long post so I didn't see you had lost the battle with your pup. You tried all you could for her and I can relate as you can see on my reply end of page 1. Since one of yur other dogs has went through Parvo that one is immune for life from it, but I would still take every precaution and even if the pup peed or pooed on grass do bleach that as well. The bleach need not be full strength as well you can spray 1 part bleach to 9 parts water on carpet and furniture and it will still kill the virus. The Virus however can live up to a year in a dog which had and beat the Parvo Virus so it is a bit difficult to completely disinfect every place the pup was.

Hugs to you and know she is not in pain or suffering anymore and is in a far better place running on healthy happy paws at the bridge.

BG once you know that smell you NEVER will get it out of your memory.

thanks for the comforting messages everyone. We've been grieving pretty hard. but it'll be ok with time. Part of me feels torn because she wasn't able to live her full life, and part of me is happy she's free from pain and all suffering now. I hope the big guy upstairs takes care of her for me until we meet again.

I'm sure she will be taking care of the Boss LOL.

On a Corgi form I am on there is one member who likes to think a puppy is called to the bridge to be of assistance to a child who just passed away and with that horrible earth quake in the middle east I'm sure the helpless children who passed away are having a grand time getting puppy breath kisses from her right now.

I`m so sorry you lost your little pup nicho, it`s so sad that Parvo was the cause and even WITH veterinary care, he may not have made it. Really sorry for your loss.

Regarding animal welfare and vet care in the states, I was watching an episode of The Dog Whisperer last night (Cesar Milan) and he was helping a dog patrol officer in Los Angeles and they took in three very badly treated dogs. One large pitbull type and what they thought was his pregnant mother and another poorly looking black dog with mange and sore eyes. I felt so sorry for these dogs because although they were taken back to some kind of animal shelter, all three were euthanased. Two due to their health and the pit due to aggression. It`s a sad fact that dogs and other pets are so easily attainable, yet when they become ill, vets are there to pick up the pieces and charge extortion money for their services. In the UK, prices vary, but in the US and Canada, the prices do seem very inflated indeed. I feel the whole pet ownership and vet relations is so far apart for many people, animals are suffering needlessly. Not because of the owners who have the right intentions, but because animal care is out of reach for the many but not the few. It`s so sad. x
