Re: Stray kitty
Thankyou! I'm constantly questioning why anyone at 24 would get a cat but here I am!

Re: Stray kitty
Being a non-cat person myself, it`s natural for a cat to seek out humans because that`s what they do! Stray or otherwise, there are too many cats straying or being bred which results in too many suffering. It`s good that you have looked for an owner and are checking for a microchip although sadly it`s (not yet) compulsory for cats and dogs to be chipped so finding an owner might prove difficult.
If you have hamsters, I would seriously consider whether keeping a cat is a good idea, especially one that wasn`t planned, unless it`s a case of not going back now, cats can become expensive if they require a vet. Especially in old age. Just a heads up (not that you care!) but just pointing out the downsides of owning a cat. x

Re: Stray kitty
Well if we're going to go there, hamsters are expensive when they need a vet too! They just don't live as long. And there are also far too many being bred irresponsibly and ones in need of care. Difference is that cats can survive on their own outside. They are predators not prey. As a cat and rodent owner I can say that it can work, just don't let the cat and hammies "meet" unsupervised, ie. keep the door shut
And fwiw, my first cat after moving out on my own was acquired when I was 30. Her royal catness is still here

Re: Stray kitty
Very true BrainGirl, just pointing out the pitfalls I suppose. Maybe I watch too many "why cats turn bad" TV shows! x

Re: Stray kitty
There are TV shows about that??? I knew about the book "How to Tell If Your Cat is Plotting to Kill You" but I don't have a TV. I'm missing out!

Re: Stray kitty
I've grown up with cats and hamsters so know the positives and the negatives. My last hamster cost me £150 when he got sick so I know the joys of vet bills. If it means me putting money aside or having to borrow money or even withdraw every penny from my account and not being able to eat for a while I would do it for any creature, cat or hamster, if they got sick. I almost know who it's parents are based on her markings so I'm very sure that with the lack of response/chip that she's a stray. Plus if you don't care enough about your cat to get it chipped or post online when you haven't seen it for a week then you don't deserve to have her beauty in your life.
I have two boys and have considered it. I've been keeping them in my boyfriends room (I live in a houseshare) until I can get her a catbed to put in the living room because he has a lock on his door and would never dream of letting her near them without my supervision. With her being very young, I'm hoping that by the time she's an old lady I'll be living in a mansion or something luxurious.
BrainGirl, whilst on the subject, can I have some advice on raising both?

Re: Stray kitty
What, cats and hamsters? Secure cage, off the floor, preferably inaccessible to all but the most agile of cats. Helps to have a skittish cat and a Chinchilla who hates cats and will hunt them down given half a chance. My kitty runs screaming from any room that Chinchilla is in
