Default Fishy update and meet Marvin!

For those that have been following the saga of Fishy, our sick betta, I wanted to send a quick update! After several days of being treated in Epsom salt baths he seems to have recovered as much as he's going to. We've moved him into a shallow, 2 gallon container so he can be closer to the top of the surface to breathe. He mostly hangs out there but will occasionally dart around if disturbed. He has been eating a pellet here or there. I think he will be forever disabled, lol. But he seems happier in his little bowl and has gotten his color back. So....we had his lovely little tank sitting empty and decided we'd try again with another fish now that we've learned so much about fish care. Meet Marvin! (My son clearly puts a lot of thought into naming his fish!) We're thinking Marvin is a juvenile. He seems to love his new digs. He swims so fast and explores every inch, it's hard to get a good pic of him. He's down in the right corner of this photo. We used lots of forum advice and a product called Tetra Safe Start to start the cycling process. Thank you to everyone for your help with the whole fish drama!

Beautiful tank set up! I'm guessing Marvin is another Betta?

Whew, what a relief! And you worked so hard to turn this around WELL DONE!!! His tank looks fine now and you know not to do 100% cleans now! The bacteria/flora should settle now and all you should need to do is test your water as before and not give yourself too many heart attacks! x

What a lovely color Marvin is(Wanna Hamster if you look very closely at the lower right corner of the tank you can just see Marvelous Marvin). Kinda like a teal green and red with a dash of Blue.
Good Job at changing You and following good suggestions and saving Fishy's life even though he has sustained life long issues. He would most likely been dead long before now without your stead fast care and help for him.

Ooh, he looks like a Double Tail betta! I have one in a lovely pinkish champagne colour. Mine is quite active too and very personable I've been warned not to overfeed them though because DTs can have deformed swim bladders due to their altered body shape. Overfeeding can trigger problems so feed very lightly

Good to hear that Fishy is hanging in there!

His cup said he is a "halfmoon double tail plakat"...it would figure we'd choose one with potential deformities! Lol Thank you for the tip on feeding!

If it's any comfort, I haven't noticed any problems with mine. She's healthy and active even though I sometimes give in to her puppydog eyes at feeding time
