Yes they are nocturnal indeed. Most of my hogs wake up around 10 pm, one wakes around 2 am and Archie wakes up every single time you walk into the room :P But he's just crazy, really.

They kill snakes too in the wild, you knew that? I just wrote an article about that on my website! I give them circkets, wax moths, mealworms, super worms, mice pinky's, chicks, boiled chicken, turkey, any given bioled meat actually... And aside from that they get fruits and vegs too. Sometimes when i'm lazy they'll get wet catfood or babyfood. But not that often..

Most of them don't want fruits and vegs here, they're very picky. So i just put all of in in my blender and make it like babyfood myself.

Yes, they need wheels! They can run up to 15 km's in one night, you ain't going to achieve that without a wheel, haha. Only pregnant hoggies, young litters and hoglets up to 12 weeks won't get wheels. I'll try catching one running

Ik found an old video of tenrec Jefferson running in his wheel. Also, you'll see a few hedgehogs and our shelter cat which found a lovely home a few days afterwards, catching a cricket I uploaded it on my Facebook, cause Photobucket acted weird..

Also, a cute video if the two hoglets i had the handrear. They were nearly 1,5 week old in this video, but so cute! Mother Milli was still with them as she accepted them even though i handled them every day since their birth. It looks like she's biting the hoglet at the end, but she just was a little impatient and tried to grab the hoglet to drag it to the nest, haha. It looks a bit weird without saying this. they are anointing my hand

And here's Archie when he was two weeks old, also anointing my hand. A bit more passionated than the other two, lol.

Oh my gosh he really likes that wheel! I'd call that "trundling" lol. The second vid is Jefferson again btw
Archie at 2 weeks wow-- the quills grow fast! That makes sense to protect them. They are quite calm aren't they? Their defense is not to outrun a predator but to ball up quills out. Getting away is on the agenda of course but it makes for a different mind set to have the weapons.

Oh lol i'm sorry! I have changed the second link so it's the right video now.

When they're born the quills are already there, but under a thin layer of skin. A couple of hours after the birth, that layer will dry our and the quills will show.

They are quite calm indeed, when handled from early stage they will ball up a lot less. For the same reason, we can get Archie out at any time of the day and give him to a complete stranger and walk outside, without him beign grumpy for even a second. We don't have to try that same thing with our other hedgies that weren't born here. Aurora is Archie's sister and is just a easy as him, but a bit shyer.

Hazel is due today! She hasn't had babies yet, so i will check on her every now and then Otherwise we will know from our petsitter in case she hears squeeks We're on a holiday for four days, so not too much. Our petsitter is a collegea of my fiancé, who has adopted a WW from us about 2 years ago. She is always very interested about our babies, so she's probably the only person apart from my mom, who i trust with them :P But my mother lives 2 hours away, haha.
