So my for my birthday this year even though it's a bit away, I want to get a pet. I absolutely love my hamsters so much but I'd like to have another pet too. Sorry if I sound spoiled but I just really love animals and I'd love to maybe adopt/rescue one for my birthday or maybe just in future. I don't know if I'll be allowed but if I am I need some ideas of what I want and I don't know. So if you have any suggestions on what animals would be best for me as a hamster owner or just what pets are best in general that would be great!
A lot of that depends on your life. How much time you have, how much you can pay for their care, etc. If you want to get a dog, cat, chinchilla or something else with a lifespan of 10 or more years you should take a look at where you'll be then. College, a new job, nothing life changing planned? Pets are diverse by how much time you need to devote, different needs, price ranges, lifespan. So really it will need to be narrowed down a bit.
Good advice! Getting a pet isn't just about you. If you want to help out with rescues look into volunteering at a no-kill shelter or similar rescue organization. I would bet spending time caring for rescues would be a very memorable birthday.
I agree with Piebald & Denise. I'm not saying don't get another pet but rather than one that is cute or amusing, what fits your lifestyle? As well as having enough time to devote to your new pet, you also have to consider would it impact on your existing animals? For example, I have two hamsters & feel if I had any more, with my other hobbies, my job & family commitments they would all get too little of my time. I also have two cats & although I would like to adopt an older rescue cat, my two hate other cats so it would be distressing for them & I have to put them before my own wants.
Instead of a pet, how about asking for some kick ass hamster accessories? I got my boyfriend to get me the new tank I'd been wanting for my birthday. And another family member got me my wodent wheel. Or how about asking for a good camera & editing equipment (if it's not already on your laptop) so you could start your own hamster YouTube channel?
