Patche is jealous!!!!
We have been keeping cold water fish in aquariums for 20 years and this is Patche, a seven year old sarasa comet.
He was feeling a little bit jealous of all the attention that the furry Fluffagrams residents get so I told him I'd post his photo for all to admire.

They say that the average lifespan of a pet fish is 5-10 years but a well looked after fish can live between 12-20 years. The longest we've ever had a fish for was 15 years and it was a fantail/single tail goldfish hybrid. We thought that was pretty good going really.
The oldest fish on record was 43.
Patche is the last fish we have, will be moving into a pond in a month or two and the tank will be sold.

What a handsome lad! I so wanted a couple of comet goldfish but I never bothered because they need a large aquarium, a strong filter and usually eventually need a pond as they can outgrow a tank! x

A pond! Are there other fishes in the pond? I wonder what he will make of that. Fifteen years for a fish is pretty good!

Re: Patche is jealous!!!!
I love fish! I have 4 of them and i must say the way my mum looks after them is no how you're supposed to. They're in a 20 Litre tank. The water conditions aren't checked either. but they have lived well over 10 years which i don't understand haha! I have 2 goldfish and two goldfish crossed with Shubunkins.

Patche should have been in a pond before now really but we don't have one and we didn't think that anyone we knew would have a pond and be willing to take him. However my best friend has a pond and will take him as soon as the water is warm enough. She's already got some fish in there and although Patche has lived on his own for a while, he used to live with other fish so we think he should settle in okay.
We actually used to 'rescue' fish with special needs from time to time, usually they were babies from my great uncles pond that weren't thriving. Once we rescued a fish that had no eyes and he lived with us for ten years.

Re: Patche is jealous!!!!
That's wonderful and interesting too. Let us know how Patche gets on in the pond. I'm hoping he'll love it!
