Yes, because dogs smell like a large predator just like cats do. They also bark. So it`s wise to keep dogs, especially excitable dogs, out of the room the hamster`s cage is kept in unless you have a placid, well behaved dog who is calm submissive. Some dogs will be, others will just intimidate. Dogs need to be conditioned to accept small creatures or they may just see them as prey. x
Is it normal for hamsters to not be scared of dogs?
I don't know if it's normal but Rupert isn't scared of my dog either, he comes up to the side of the cage and has a good look and sniff of my dog. Not in the slightest bit worried!
Even though I've only had Rue just over a week she isn't scared of my dogs either. I guess maybe it just depends on the temperament of the hamster? I've seen a lot of people say their's aren't bothered but also others saying their's have been stressed.
