Re: Neglected/abandoned dog
This is such a terrible and sad story for Smoky How long was she left alone? And was she left inside the old house or tied up outside? She should be reported if for no other reason than to have your "friend" barred from owning any more animals. It may be that she growled at you because dementia has begun to set in. Especially possible given her time alone without proper nutrition or stimulation. If she doesn't come around quickly it may be kindest to have her put out of her misery I'm afraid. I really am sorry for saying it but if she's a danger to others in her confusion and pain then it might be the kindest thing

Smoky was left alone for 3 years and she was inside. It is too painful to put her out of her misery because of all she been through. Shes turning 15 tommorow and I find that amazing for such a sick dog. Percy was licking her clean and now the town of them are curled up on the couch. Smoky has started the taming process when she woke up and she is taking food out of our hands and isn't showing much aggression anymore. We have our hopes for her and we wish her the best

Re: Neglected/abandoned dog
That's wonderful, she's not lost yet! I was afraid from your description that you were risking your safety to keep her but just the fact that she's already allowing your other dog to care for her is telling me that she still has a spark inside.
Best of luck <3

Re: Neglected/abandoned dog
Smoky is definitely a fighter. We had Percy and smoky outside today. Smoky's messed up lung doesn't stop her from moving around. It makes me happy to see Percy so happy again. Smoky watches Percy like she's her mother and I haven't seen Percy this happy since before her mother died. We all think smoky is going to heal nicely and she has a vet appointment tommorow so we will see how that goes

Re: Neglected/abandoned dog
For some animals just having another of their own kind to "talk" to really helps. I've seen it before. Best of luck at the vets

Re: Neglected/abandoned dog
I hope Smoky makes a full recovery. In tears reading this. I love dogs, especially labs, and your 'friend' deserves something horrible in return for abandoning Smoky all those years!
I'm going to agree that she needs to be reported. Who's to say that other animals or other dogs haven't been abandoned by her or her family? Hateful, hateful person.

Re: Neglected/abandoned dog
Just got back from the vet.we just found out that smoky is blind from cataracts. We would give her surgery to fix it but she turned 15 today. Happy birthday smoky. Smoky's messed up lung is getting better every day and the vet said there is a good chance she will make a full recovery

Re: Neglected/abandoned dog
Dogs can do just find without their eyesight, just get them used to their home and don't rearrange it once they do. Stick to a familiar route on walks and daily routine and she shouldn't have any trouble dealing with her blindness. Here's hoping she continues to recover in all other ways and to a happy and carefree life to the end of her days x

Re: Neglected/abandoned dog
Encouraging news from the vet then, although it is of course sad that she is blind. Wishing Smoky lots of love and healing!

Re: Neglected/abandoned dog
Yaaay at smoky.
Happy Birthday sweetie. 15 is an amazing age, even more so the fact she was left all alone for all them years.
Have you any pics of her?
