Cruel trap

My dad set a trap by the entrance of the mouse hole and I thought it was fine. Well, what the trap really does is get them stuck in there with no food and they sit in there shaking in terror for days until they die. I would much rather prefer instant kill traps. Does anyone else agree

I doubt that the trap is meant to be used that way. Traps that trap but don't kill are meant for catching them then releasing them somewhere else.

It's cruel to leave them like that and certainly not a humane option.

Neither one really. There are safe traps to catch wild rodents so they can be turned loose outside the home. Preferably closer to the neighbors house than yours

The sticky traps and the spring traps are not all that efficient, making both of them pretty cruel...Often an animal gets stuck (even in the instant kill trap) and decides to chew off a limb to get out....hideous things....

I'm not even sure if the sticky traps are meant for a later release...for the reasons you described, they're torture and I'm not sure who wants to pry a rodent off something stuck to their feet, tail, etc? ...or are you describing the safe traps that catch them in a cage like box?

Oh, Twix! I'm sorry, those traps are really cruel and not efficient at all because if there's one mouse in the house, there are usually many more. I speak from experience. We tried catching mice in safe traps and managed to release a few into the woods but they kept on coming. We closed up all holes we could see with steel wool and that seemed to help but they are able to get into some extremely small areas. We even had a chipmunk visiting ( we had been away from our house for over a year). Eventually we had to have professionals in.

I love my hamsters but I draw the line at wild mice in the house. Maybe you could give your dad some information about other options?

I own a release trap. I bought it to catch an escaped hammy. Of course the hammy never went near it.

But I did keep it because if I do get a mouse, this is a safe way to catch it. Mousie walks in and then I could let it go outside. I've been here 10 years and haven't seen a one yet. I've seen the sticky traps at work. Since I have rodent pets, the traps bother me. I've rescued mice that fall into a garbage pail at work and had everyone laughing about it. Yet, these are the same people who came in to visit when I brought a hammy or gerbil in to work. Rodents have a long history of battling with the human race. Pretty early on rodents recognized that a good place to be was where the humans are. Quite a number of them made sure to look cute enough so that some humans brought them in, made homes for them, fed them really good food and gave them wonderful lives. But wild rodents do carry disease, get into grain stores and can become so numerous that they are a real problem in homes. So, I understand that they need to be controlled. But, I don't have to like it. Or the ways in which it is done.

I'm with you DrK, I know there needs to be control but it's not for me to have to like it. Fortunately, since I've been in my current house, I haven't had any uninvited rodents, despite the woodlands at the end of the garden. It's quite a new build though, so no holes that I know about so far.

I'm so sorry twix that you had to go through that experience, I feel for you, totally.
