A hedgehog named Tuesday

Right before this last Christmas I adopted a year and a half old hedgehog. I think her previous owner had tired of her and was rehoming her on craigslist. She was my Christmas present to myself.

My daughter and I named her Tuesday since that was the day of the week we brought her home on. My daughter fell in love with her right away but we soon found out she was allergic to Tuesday. Here are some pictures of Miss Tuesday.

Very cute! Is she ever difficult to touch? Looks painful. lol Ate you able to control your daughter's allergies?

If Tuesday has just woken up or you touch her and she didn't know you were there she quills up and makes this hiss like noise. The more she is held the less huffy she is. With my daughter she just can't touch her at all. My daughter enjoys when we take Tuesday in the bathroom and let her explore around.

We also have 3 pet rats and my daughter can't touch them either as she's allergic to them as well.

Do the quills draw blood, even if down by accident when holding her? Just curious. They are so adorable. Too bad your daughter can't touch her or the rats though.

If Tuesday is fully extending her quills it's hard to pick her up. They are so prickly and can hurt quite a bit. They've never made me bleed though just leaves prickle marks on your hands.

When her quills are not extended out she feels completely different, almost soft like. They are very sensitive to smell also. If I don't hold her regularly I have to let her get used to my smell again. If they like a smell a lot they do what's called anointing. They tilt their head to the side and spit up on their side. It's kind of gross and neat at the same time. Sometimes she does this when I'm holding her.

What a cute face on her Is she a full hedgehog? Or a Pygmy Hedgehog?

So cute. My son is wanting a hedgehog. Are they more difficult to care for than hamsters?
