Re: A lot of Mouse-related questions.
I just chatted with a local reptile shop owner who said the multis would kill a mouse instantly. He said they are very aggressive and difficult to keep together even with their own kind because they fight a lot.
I think now, even if it could be done, I wouldn't take the chance.

Re: A lot of Mouse-related questions.
Wow... From what I've read thats not the case but it probably does depend on the living arrangements. Does always show that research is handy though
Heres the micearenice thread on it - http://www.micearenice.co.uk/new/ind...-multimammates

Re: A lot of Mouse-related questions.
Yeah I read that thread too (and just re-read it). Very opposite experiences, though Emma eluded to the multi being aggressive. Oh well, maybe if I was an expert and not a novice with both.

Re: A lot of Mouse-related questions.
Yeah... Its interesting how different the experiences are. Could be quite a few things contributing there too - including their genetics. I'm sure some lines're more tolerant with humans, might be theres a difference in how tolerant they are of other mice too *shrugs*

Re: A lot of Mouse-related questions.
So you all think that he'd just be better off with living by himself? Then, what about his cage? Is it okay for right now? Or can I get him a 40-gallon breeder (all for himself)? I really would like to upgrade him to an all-natural, larger more customary type-styled-cage if that's possible. . . But I dont' want to get him anything that might kill him or hurt or whatever. >_<
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: A lot of Mouse-related questions.
Yes, true. Lots of factors to consider. This guy might only deal with them in the feeder mice sense, but he does raise pet rats so not sure. Looks like I found myself a rat breeder, yay! lol
Thrifty, I don't think they are like dwarf hamsters where too much room can make them go into hiding, but depends on the mouse. Kryll knows more than I do though.

Re: A lot of Mouse-related questions.
Yeah... At least you found a rat breeder anyway
Thrifty Hamster - My advice would be to look at your mouse for yourself. Spend some time with him and see if he's happy. If he's happy, great. If he's not happy then maybe you need to change something. All through this thread I've been trying to say to research before you do things and just getting me and Esmy to give advice won't be half as helpful as reading lots of different peoples opinions and stuff by doing a bit of research
I'd definetly not worry about an urgent upgrade but what your mouse needs depends on your mouse really

Re: A lot of Mouse-related questions.
Would this be a good cage to build for Mortimer?

Someone I think in this thread said that wood isn't sutiable for mice, especially males who aren't neutered or spayed because they mark in it but if I layered the wood a lot with extra stuff like fleece and a lot of bedding would it be okay?

Re: A lot of Mouse-related questions.
Ultimately it's up to you. You may find people who have made a cage like that for mice and liked it. I still wouldn't do it. Fleece and pee are a bad combination. I tried it with my Guinea Pigs. It does not hide the smell whatsoever, and the pee can still soak through the bottom, making the wood go bad. However, I had fleece on a layer of coroplast which was easy to clean. You'd also want to protect the sides. Bedding would stick to fleece like a magnet and be very difficult to separate and clean. Oh and mice chew fleece. Jerry mouse just ripped up a fleece hideout and I had to toss it.m
In my opinion, if you are willing to mesh, pick up a large guinea pig cage and mesh it. It is a huge pain to do though. But he'd have a lot of room to run around and climb.

Re: A lot of Mouse-related questions.
So I might have a different cage for the mousey, but if I did decide to build the lack cage for him as well, I could layer the wood with coroplast and then a lot of bedding? Thanks!
