I miss Jewel and Miranda rats are such short lived. Miranda doesn't have long left either I don't think as she has a tumor and breathing problems. There's not much the vet can give her to make her better now :'(

Oh Hammy2, I wish I hadn't clicked your thread, your rats are all beautiful. Seeing these pics has me wanting to get a rat.

Rats are gorgeous, so friendly and loving. but vet bills can get pricey for older rats and shop brought rats generally only live a year and a half if they've been bred wrong. Going to a rat breeder is your best bet if you want healthy long lived rats and don't want your heart broken. Their personalities are so cute though. I snuggle them for hours

I'm so glad you've told me that. I would need to look into seeing if there's any rat breeders near me.
What's their life expectancy when bred?

I also have a couple of Surinam Cockroachs. They were unwanted pets that came with 500 baby Indian stick insects. the owner didn't even know they were there so I didn't know what they were at first. These particular cockroaches like the Indian sticks breed by Parthenogenesis so don't need a male :-\

This is a newly shedded one

Dried out

And fully grown. I've found that their favorite food is grape and rat nugget

I've not had any from a breeder yet but I'm guessing around 3 years
