I can see the food in the first link you posted, and the one you posted just now. Maybe its something on Jessie's end that isn't working right? Not to say that I mean "User Error" or anything.

Anyways, mice are more agile and like to climb, compared to the mostly land dwelling hamster. I wouldn't put a whole bunch for him to climb on though, as he is recovering from some bad wounds.

Male mice tend to secrete and rather, obnoxious(?) odor, which is actually their musk and what they use to mark their territory. I find that less deep cleans and more spot cleaning helps a little. Someone once told me a drop of vanilla (not imitation mind you) extract into their water bottle also helps, but I didn't notice any difference when I used it on my (now late) Algernon.

I am sure that with time, and love, he'll heal nicely.

That mix looks okay and you can add millet to it. His fur does look a little sparse which may indicate the way he was living, so hopefully that will improve with better care and diet.

The meshed wheel isn`t ideal. I would try and get hold of a regular (6.5") silent spinner for him as it`s a solid running surface. Or other similar wheel. Otherwise, your doing fine. x

I'm hopefully going to add some DIY toys and pet-shoppe-bought-toys to his cage when I see his wounds are improving. He hasn't had the Saline Solution yet added to his body but I'm going to fix up something soon once I get a bit more information on him.

I'm going to order the mouse diet Since Selective from VioVet and put in a few kibble pieces of those in with his NatGeo mix. I'll pick out the corn and majority of sunflower seeds, give him things like fresher Timothy Hay from my mom's friend's boarding barn (they have horses that we share one technically and I'll ask if we can borrow a bagful of Timothy hay.) And when I apply the Saline Solution - hopefully I can find a tutorial of some sort? Its really something new to me so I'm looking up information on it.

I can't take him to the vet, I promised my parents I wouldn't, I'm sorry to say this so shockingly to you all but last time we took my hamster to the vet she died the next day or so. So that's why my parent's are so against it. My dad's still fed up I had to actually buy him... I'll explain to him later how mad I am at the store (PetCo), and that I'll form a complaint to their CEO about how worried I am for their other stock and stock they were trying to sell me. (AKA: Their snakes they were feeding the mice too and the condition they were keeping the mice in.)

The reasons why I'm going with this NatGeo food versus. The current food (which I hope to get him off of ASAP) I'm having him on which is a PetCo-brand... Is because I'm not ever going to set foot in a PetCo again.

If I must, it's at least not going to be THAT PetCo. They had the GALL to sell me... no... SELL me an injured animal, and while they did give me a 'discount' (eighty cents off) my friends are still shocked at their stupidity in enterprising.

So, I'll file the complaint regardless if it gets anything anywhere and I'll say "Good day to you," Then try to be done with it. In the meantime I'll also try to make his scent go down and build him a nice DIY-string-bridge and such, maybe some climbing-toys that don't have a solid base, and more.

Taming will come later... Now it's just a rough road onto recovery? Not much, I think he'll recover just fine. I'm avoiding from handling him at all costs for my safety and his, I don't want him to get too stressed and I don't want to be sick somehow from the dried blood everywhere. So maybe sometime tomorrow or even today I'll apply that Saline Solution and then I'll let him have it sit on him, and eventually he'll be able to be handled without me having to worried without being infected or something.

I just want to make sure he's cleaned before handling him is all.

Sorry to say that he really needs antibiotics to see to it that no infections from the wounds happen. If he gets infections, your saving him will be for naught as he'll only get sicker. So, yeah, you'll HAVE to take him to a vet for that.

Granted, antibiotics can only be supplied by a vet, but for skin wounds, saline and rest can sometimes be enough. I wouldn`t fuss over him too much honestly. He`s been through a torrid time already and he`s probably either going to do well, or he`s not. I`m guessing that vets in the US don`t see many pet mice and if you did go, they would charge you a small fortune for Baytril or even just a routine check up. Mice are strong little creatures but if they are too ill to save anyway, you would know just by his behaviour and reactions.

Your doing fine by him, believe me. You also don`t need to pick the corn out of his mix. Wait and see if he wants to eat the corn. It won`t harm him. Always allow the mouse or hamster to decide what they don`t want or like.

Keep us updated and tell your dad that he shouldn`t worry about having the mouse. He may smell but he main thing is you to him out of a bad situation and anything that happens now can only be an improvement. x

Poor little mousie. I can just make him out in the photo. I am looking forward to seeing how he does once he's all healed up and you start taming him. Unfortunately, you are going to see animals in need all your life. You aren't going to be able to save them all. I've learned to not look on Google, not go near a pet store if I don't have to, and support my local rescue several times a year. I get my hammies and gerbils...and even my Chihuahua, Yoda ,from that same rescue. It's the best I can do. Otherwise I make myself crazy, worrying about what will happen to all the animals I cannot help. My mother used to go mad with my animals when I was young. It's one of the things I love about being an adult, especially now that I've retired. No one tells me what I may or may not bring into my home.

I added a few toys in his cage and got rid of that icky wire wheel and I replaced it with a silent spinner that I had used for my hamsters, a bendable natural log bridge, a string bird toy I bought from Petsmart (the bridge came from Petsmart to), a chewy block that's like some mineral thing - Petsmart - and a hay mat that I got from Petsmart a long time ago.

He seems to be stimulated so far, he has spinach in there, broccoli and millet along with his seed mix and water bottle. I was wondering if mice can eat cooked pasta. So should I ask my mom to make something like spaghetti for dinner tomorrow and throw in a piece for him?

Plus good news! He may be a bully, but he's SUPER sweet! He's super sweet with my mom and I, and he never bit us once, we held him and dabbed a little saline at his sides and he started grooming himself.

Yes, we held him by his tail but not strongly - not enough to make him 'uncomfortable'. As we have had mice before and Gerbils so that's why we did that to make sure he was safe, but if he did struggle we'd put him back in the tank ASAP.

I'm trying to convince my mom to let me get a screen topper for my twenty gallon for him and eventually move him to that, but that wont be for another few weeks or so. (Maybe two - three so he's finally settled in.)

We also got a buy 2 get 1 free bedding deal on small bags of white All Living Things Bedding from Petsmart. It was paper bedding, the white & fluffy kind. You know, like the off brand to Kaytee Clean & Cozy.

Though, it's not Clean & Cozy its something. My mom refuses to buy the expensive kind!

If I saved up enough money to pay for it myself, I could convince her otherwise.

So yeah, thats about it for now. Thanks so much everyone!
