This is a story about my kitty. I adopted her almost a decade ago from a military family who was being transferred when she was already several years old and she was a very skittish cat. A scaredy cat if you'll forgive the term
She still is really and can disappear at will. More than once I've posted "lost cat" ads on our local classifieds only to discover that she was home all the time, just in hiding! It took her a long time to settle but in the end she's turned out to be an affectionate cat with selected humans and unusually calm with vets.
Well, her humans had to move and we were worried how this would affect the furkids, especially the cat because she doesn't deal well with change. True to form, she hid in the closet for the first couple of weeks, only coming out to eat. This is a cat who loves warmth and sleep like no other that I've known and she gradually discovered the joys of the fireplace. This morning was especially windy so I started a blaze in order to get a jump on the cooling effect I knew it would have. I did a rather excellent job of fire-building though and the suite was soon sauna-like in spite of the wind outside. I don't have to tell you that my cat was in seventh heaven! I took several pictures of her sprawled on the hearth, luxuriating in the glow of the flames.
Today was special though. For most of her life she's lived in a place that only saw sunlight twice a year, but only if it wasn't overcast during the few moments the sun lined up with the buildings in such a way that a thin beam could squeak through. I didn't call it Stonehenge for nothing
Suddenly, the clouds blew away, the rain stopped, and an intense sun poured over everything! Our south-facing suite suddenly got even hotter and best of all, there were sunbeams on the carpet! Right across the hearth no less!
Face it, no one will ever be as happy as this cat:
