Default Guinea pigs?

So guys i have decided in a few years time when i am hopefully more stable e.g own place, steady job etc. that has well as having a hammie i would love to get some guinea pigs.

I have been researching for a few months and have gathered loads of information on their specific needs including food, housing etc. , as i like to be fully prepared

If anyone owns some i would love to hear how you find it and if you have any tips or information that you think i should know i would love to read them.

thanks everyone!! xx

I have a two and a half year old shorthaired guinea pig.
She's a huge slob and a brat, but she's very fun to watch when i let her run around my room. Feeding isn't too expensive (just hay and pellets or such and fruit) and they'll be just fine.

Have you seen CxC Cages?

PiggiePigPigs lives in the UK and makes handmade piggie toys/etc,
her youtube is Piggiepigpigs! - YouTube

I really suggest looking at her videos :3

Anyway if you do get a piggie I wish you luck xD Mine's such a slob that I don't think ill ever get one again, but she's quite a cutie.

I once decided that I wanted a pair of guinea pigs and did a whole load of research on them.

Be aware that guinea pigs, or cavies as they are sometimes called, can't produce vitamin C on their own so they need a diet rich in it. Timothy hay is a good source of this, as well as keeping their teeth trim, so keep a steady supply of it within their reach at all times. If they can't get vitamin C from outside sources, they will get very sick and die.

Also make sure to serve them a good pelleted food as well as hay. This serves to give them more opportunity to wear down their ever growing teeth and to help them get essential nutrients and vitamins.

Most of the treats commercially sold for guinea pigs aren't really all that good for them. I've often been told that the best treats a person can give a guinea pig is fresh veggies and greens. Avoid things like lettuce, especially iceberg lettuce, and celery if possible as they contain mostly water and very little if any nutrients.

C+C cages are wonderful. I highly recommend them and was considering using one back then. Just make sure you get one appropriately sized to the number of pigs you want, with bigger ones being for more pigs and smaller ones being for less.

Pigs love to be kept in pairs or groups as they are very social. Just be cautious that you don't mix a boar with a sow (male with a female) as they will reproduce. You can look into getting boars neutered, but its just easier to keep them in same sex groups or pairs.

As an added bonus, I'll tell you that guinea pig pups are born fully formed, furred and with open eyes and ears. They will almost instantly be fully mobile too. They are essentially miniatures of adults. This is a complete contrast to hamsters who give birth to blind, deaf and naked pups who are absolutely helpless and dependent on their mother for the first 2-3 weeks of their lives.

Baby guinea pigs are the cutest things ever. Mine was tiny when I got her.

my guinea pig actually developed a vitamin c deficiency a few months back and lost ALL her hair. I found out its because I hadn't given her hay in a few weeks and somehow she declined really fast. I was shocked. Needless to say no more hay breaks if it's preventable..

I wish I had the room for C-C cages. I'd have a giant one

No problem. I am thinking that when both Chibiusa and Kousagi pass on to the rainbow bridge, I might bring home a pair of guinea pigs. I'll have to do some research of course, as things might have changed when I last did some research some 6 years ago. I was part of a Cavie/Piggy forum at one point, but I forget what its name was. I'll have to do some digging and see if I can find it again.
